I only spent one week there because Manuel got very angry one day, when he felt his unreasonable authority was being questioned. A volunteer from Chile, another from Argentina and I decided to go for a bike ride after we had finished our work. Manuel acted in such an aggressive and irrational way, saying that I was defying him by inviting the girls to go biking (which by the way we were allowed to do in our free time!) that it became impossible to talk to him. He then asked us when we could leave, breaking the six-week commitment he himself had required and which we had agreed to even before we left our countries. And I was the one who got a lower grade for commitment! :P Well, that was to be expected, as I later found out he had already been accused of sexual harassment by a Filipino girl/volunteer and also hit on the Chilean girl. Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the first nor the last case of Ecuadorian men harrassing girls and misusing their power that I'd witness in this country.
Apart from giving an inaccurate job description and type of accommodation, Manuel is unstable and unreliable. One day, after our work was done, I told him the volunteers were going for a bike ride. This is when he literally freaked out, began to talk in an aggressive way, behaving like a child and arguing I was, in his own words, “taking the girls away from him”! Not only unprofessional, but outright rude and sexist! He began to mistreat us and one week after I arrived, he said he wouldn't need us anymore, breaking the 6-week commitment he'd required. Finally, he asked us when we could leave!

Roger’s presence in our hotel made a difference! Before hiring any professionals, I like to find out what their personality and qualities are like. And this young man proved to be respectful, caring, communicative, proactive and kind. When booking a room, some guests even asked if Roger was still working with us. His great experience with massage therapy and creative and mystical approach to life led him to create his own style of massage named Icelandic Massage. This makes sense, as he not only massages with his hands, but also with his soul.
An amazing and life-changing experience I wish to do again when I have the chance. Dina was not just an excellent professional, but also a mother to me. Super friendly staff in an awesome hotel and breathtaking natural environment.
The inn is a very special place and the experience I had there was both unique and life-changing. The combination of its laidback and cozy environment and the freedom and support that Dina, the hotel manager, gave me enabled my work with massage therapy to be developed and even innovated. I have only words of gratitude to share as the hotel staff treated me like family, becoming my friends more than coworkers. It's amazing how such positive human connections allow you to feel and work better and become more effective. Dina, thank you so much for this wonderful experience!!! :)
