Caryle
Caryle offers travelers a unique opportunity to be part of a purpose-driven social enterprise creating real community impact in Kenya. Volunteers become part of a women-led initiative transforming textile waste into reusable sanitary pads, washable diapers, and upcycled lifestyle products that help keep girls in school, support low-income families, reduce environmental pollution, and create sustainable livelihoods for women and youth. Beyond volunteering, travelers experience authentic grassroots innovation, creativity, and cultural exchange while contributing directly to community empowerment and sustainable living. Depending on their skills and interests, volunteers can support areas such as sewing and production, community outreach, social media and storytelling, photography and videography, product design, marketing, training programs, environmental initiatives, and organizational development. At Caryle, volunteers are not just visitors, they become part of a growing movement transforming waste into dignity, opportunity, and hope.
Caryle is a women-led social enterprise based in Kisumu, Kenya, founded with the vision of transforming waste into dignity, opportunity, and sustainable livelihoods. Our team is made up of passionate young women and men working across production, community engagement, training, marketing, and sustainable product development. We come from different professional and community backgrounds but share a common commitment to environmental sustainability, social impact, creativity, and women and youth empowerment.
Our work environment is collaborative, inclusive, hands-on, and community-oriented. We value learning, innovation, teamwork, cultural exchange, and mutual respect. Volunteers joining Caryle can expect to work closely with the founder and team members in a friendly and supportive atmosphere where everyone’s ideas and contributions are appreciated.
We believe volunteering should be a meaningful and enriching experience for both the volunteer and the host organization. Volunteers will be treated with respect, kindness, fairness, and openness. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and flexible environment where volunteers can learn new skills, share their talents, experience local culture, and actively contribute to projects that create real impact within the community.
We also value open communication and teamwork, and we encourage volunteers to ask questions, bring creative ideas, and participate fully in both the work and cultural experiences during their stay with us.
