Gaslamp Hostel
Not only do you get to live in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter which is the heart of the restaurant, shopping and nightlife district, but you get to stay in a cozy and historical location that celebrates the best of San Diego. Our volunteers get to help shape the vibe and atmosphere and learn what it's like to run a hostel . Please note, we have a 'canine ambassador' - an 11lb pup who loves people and giving kisses so if you miss your buddy, you can get some love here.
The hostel partners are long time friends and co-workers with over 20 years of hostel management experience working for independent hostel chains who've decided to strike out on their own. We like to laugh, be relaxed and make sure our guests have a great time and our team feel respected, appreciated and heard. We love new ideas and meeting people from around the world.

I had an amazing time at the hostel, and i even ended up extending my stay a few times. The working hours are exactely as what was agreed on, and you'll have plenty of free time after your shift ends. Everyone is super nice and we did a lot of activities in the afternoons together enjoying the californian summer. From over 10 volunteerings i've done, this one has been the best! I would absolutely recommend this volunteering position :)))

Honestly, the hostel is amazing. It was my first experience with worldpackers so I didn't know what to expect, but it easily turned into one of the best chapters of my life. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and the daily tasks are super straightforward. The hostel is surrounded by amazing food spots and endless entertainment, and San Diego itself is just breathtaking. I connected with incredible souls and created memories I will cherish forever. If you are on the fence about it, I cannot recommend it enough, it is 100% worth it! Thank you, the hostel :)

I had the best time at the hostel. I can't even put into words how much I have learned from this experienced. The management is amazing and welcoming, they truly make sure everyone feels included. And the people I met here will forever have a place in my heart. I'm so incredibly thankfull that I got to have the hostel as my first worldpackers experience. Thank you to all the people there.

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, as this was my first world packers experience. But it was everything I could've hoped for, and more. I got to meet so many amazing people, have so many experiences and create bunches of new memories to take back with me. The work was as listed, very manageable, and they were able to take requests for schedules too. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! They've set the bar high for any other world packers experiences in my future.

This was my first volunteering experience, and I chose the hostel hoping for a sense of community, which I definitely found. I met incredible people and felt welcomed, safe, and at home. The hostel is beautiful and well-located. Although the beach isn't close, I could easily get there thanks to public transport. The 5-hour shifts can feel long, but with planning, you can still explore San Diego daily. Management is also open to suggestions when making the schedule. San Diego was perfect, and I had such a special month. Thank you, the hostel! <3
