Siem Reap
This is a flexible, community-based volunteer experience rather than a traditional placement with one fixed organization. My goal is to help you find opportunities that genuinely match your interests, skills, and the kind of contribution you'd like to make while you're in Siem Reap.
Before or shortly after you arrive, we'll talk about what interests you. Based on that, I'll reach out to local organizations and people in the community to help find opportunities that are a good fit. These might include animal care, conversational English, arts and crafts, community projects, helping local organizations, activities within the LGBTQ+ community, or something completely different based on your interests.
There are no specific volunteer activities at the house, and you're not locked into one organization. You might spend a few days helping in one place and then try something completely different. I think that's a much more relaxed way to volunteer, meet people, and get to know Siem Reap beyond the usual tourist experience.
I only ask that you spend approximately 3–4 days per week, 3–4 hours per day doing something that helps the community. The rest of your time is yours to explore, relax, visit Angkor Wat, meet people, work remotely, or simply enjoy Cambodia.
You can also create your own small project. If you notice an area that could use a community cleanup, for example, I'll supply the bags and we can put in the work together. :) I'm open to ideas, and initiative is always welcome.
The house is located on the edge of Siem Reap, away from the busiest tourist areas but still very convenient to town. Pub Street is about a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride away, so you'll have easy access to restaurants, nightlife, markets, cafés, and the center of Siem Reap while getting to experience a quieter, more residential side of the city.
This isn't intended to be a rigid volunteer program. It's an opportunity to live in Siem Reap for a while, connect with people, contribute a few hours of your time, and hopefully leave knowing the community a little better than when you arrived.
I’m originally from the States, but I’ve spent the past several years traveling and living in different parts of the world. I enjoy learning about different cultures, meeting people with different backgrounds and perspectives, and experiencing places as more than just a tourist. Siem Reap has become home for me, and I’d like to give other travelers the chance to experience some of that same sense of community.
My background is in psychology, recruiting, project management, and technology, so I tend to be naturally interested in people, what motivates them, and what they hope to get out of an experience. I’m pretty relaxed and easygoing, and I don’t want volunteers to feel like they’re entering a rigid program or being micromanaged.
If you stay with me, you’ll be treated as a guest in my home, not as cheap labor. I’ll respect your independence and personal space, and I expect the same in return. I’m happy to help you get oriented, introduce you to people, help find volunteer opportunities that fit your interests, and offer advice about getting around Siem Reap.
I enjoy being social, sharing meals, having conversations, and hearing people’s stories, but I also understand that everyone needs downtime. You won’t be expected to constantly socialize or follow a fixed household schedule.
The main things I ask are simple: be respectful, clean up after yourself, communicate if you need something, contribute a little time to the local community, and enjoy your stay.
I want this to feel less like a formal volunteer placement and more like having a comfortable home base in Siem Reap while you explore, meet people, do something useful, and hopefully leave with a few good memories and new friendships.
