Unlike traditional work-exchange programs, we do not offer free accommodation in exchange for volunteer work. Instead, you rent a private room in our shared house for ¥25,000/month, including utilities, Wi-Fi and shared household supplies. Your accommodation and volunteer work are separate. This unique structure allows travelers who are not eligible for a Working Holiday visa, including short-term visitors, to join our program.

At Hostel Knot, volunteering is about much more than helping at a hostel—it's about becoming part of a local community. Located in the heart of Shuzenji Onsen, one of Japan's oldest and most beautiful onsen towns, our hostel offers the chance to experience everyday life surrounded by traditional culture and friendly locals. We're looking for friendly, reliable people who want to experience Japan as a local, not just as a traveller.

What can I say, couldn't have wished for a better first time Worldpackers experence. I felt integrated and from the day I arrived. I really had the feeling everybody did everything they could to make it a pleasent stay. Could always ask for help or tips about what to do. Also work was always clearly explained and there was no expectation that you have to know it all immediately. Definately want to come back and can recommend to anyone who wants to experence slower paced, rual life in Japan :)

My experience at the hostel was truly wonderful. Their kindness, understanding, and willingness to help with anything, along with the lovely atmosphere, were some of the things that made me really happy during my stay. The tasks we had to do were very simple and manageable for everyone. We also had many days off during the week, which gave me the opportunity to explore some really beautiful places. It was such a peaceful and memorable experience, and I'm very grateful to the hostel team for making it so special. A huge thank you to Ryohey, Jamie, and Haru! ❤️🙏🏻🫶🏻
