Anahata Farm

Incredibly peaceful and private tropical fruit tree farm near a black sand beach and geothermal hot ponds. People come here to enjoy nature, do yoga, and learn about growing food and off-grid living in tropical Hawaii. We live on the part of the island that people call "alternative" - there are several very interesting communities here that host things like a estatic dance, yoga, breathwork, drum circles, etc.

Please note: We don't take newby work-traders, you must have at least one Worldpackers experience, (sorry, no first timers).

There are typically 2 to 5 people here at any one time, it's very laid back and tropical, peaceful, quiet, 15 mins to Pahoa town and close to the beach, hot springs, people describe this property as very Zen like! We are totally off-grid, refrigerators, electricity in all accommodations, fast Wi-Fi, hot showers, and a composting toilet (life changing experience) - and this is not the Hilton! :)

I had a beautiful stay at Anahata Farm. It was just the experience I was searching for, exercising the art of "not making assumptions", getting out of our confort zone and get a deep connection with nature.

Kai is a kind host that is keen to share ideias and experiences with you. He has a huge experience concerning life itself and I had a great time just talking to him.

I did painting and landscaping here (Kai will teach you all the tools and techniques). Work trade hours happens on sunny days, bring a pair of rubber boots and make sure you get a car to explore the island.

If you're looking for a hotel, resort or similar experience this is not for you. Kai's setup is providing a comfortable, alternative lifestyle living. That means the toilet is a short stroll up a cleared jungle path, kinda like an outhouse in older style homes, but without toilet flush or tp since it's a bio-toilet. There is soap and running water to wash your hands in the toilet, and after a day of trial run i worked it out, no drama at all. Kitchen is open air with tarp, but well setup with seating and all necessities. Electricity was also in the nice remodeled van i stayed in for lights and

Kai is an openminded, passionate and connected person who I loved getting to know. His space is set up for volunteers to feel at home on the land and in their own being. All communication and conversation was very much appreciated. Looking forward to coming back soon 🌿

It was an amazing experience to stay in Anahata Village!
It is a “roots” and no luxury experience and an amazing opportunity if you want to be in contact with pure nature!
The island is amazing and Kai was able to share with me all the history about volcanos and their lands!

If you are open to a simple and nature connected experience, I totally recommend!

Life-changing experience. It feels like a retreat, the way Kai works makes us understand the exchange with the land and nature. I felt so connected with the place and the fire energy of the island. Kai is a very interesting person, we had great talks and he was always happy to share his knowledge with us. I haven't fell this connection with life in a very long time. This is not for everyone, make sure u are comfortable with the compost toilet and physical demand jobs. If you are open, this can be the experience of your life
Thanks for having us Kai
