Carcavelos Surf Hostel

We are a surf hostel, close to the beach and also to Lisbon. We have a chillout vibe and you will meet people from all over the world! Carcavelos is one of the best Lisbon beach breaks where you can learn how to surf, do SUP and hang out by the beach. In half a hour by the train you will be in Lisbon!

We always receive volunteers from all over the world, so you'll always have company! We are a team of 2 fixed staff and we will be always available to help you! You will be trained in your activities once you arrive and you can count on us to solve any doubts.

Me siento bastante decepcionada ya que el anfitrión(no es ni la q aparece en wordpakers, es otro)piensa que nos marchamos por un problema con una tabla y en realidad esa solo fue la gota que colmo el vaso.Ni siquiera ha intentado entender nuestra posición, ya que directamente no ha tenido el valor ni de contestarnos ni dar la cara en ningún momento. Por esto creemos que no tiene ni ganas de mejorar. Solamente quiere voluntarios para ahorrarse el dinero en trabajadores, no cumple para nada con la visión de trabajo colaborativo. Nos quedamos con lo bueno que fue conocer la gente que conocimos.

Siento que nuestra experiencia ha sido mala. Roger, el gerente, es maravilloso y las demás voluntarias también, gente que merece la pena. Pero José, el host, tiene muchas cosas que mejorar. Hemos dormido en un garaje con muchísima humedad, todos los colchones eran malísimos, viejos y con muchos hongos, no ponía la calefacción y hacía un frío tremendo en la casa. Además, no se nos explicaba bien cómo teníamos que llevar a cabo algunas tareas y hemos pasado muchísima vergüenza delante de clientes. Hemos sentido que hemos trabajado gratis para alguien que no nos ha dado nada. No lo recomiendo.

The tasks are simple and the agreed hours are respected, the work team was good. The host was considerate and flexible when asking to extend our stay and schedule changes, the only thing to improve is the volunteer room, which is too small for 6 people.

The hostel needs an immediate renovation, cleaning bathrooms 8 times a day not gonna solve the mold and the broken things, and we had lot of problems with electricity and hot water. The staff room is super small for 6-7 people and it’s really moldy and dark as well. The hostel is not really prepared for bad weather, we cannot really wash our clothes there because without a drying machine it’s never gonna dry.
This hostel has a lot of potential, but sadly it’s not used.
The other volunteers and the guests were amazing I got a family far from home, because of them I had a wonderful time.
