Donativo Polagrino

*Me pueden escribir en espanol!
*If you have a look at the references, you can see how other Worldpackers appreciated the place I coordinate. The big majority seems to enjoy the experience here.
* Most applications I get are from people in their twenties from "Western" countries. If you are over 30-35 and/or not from Europe/North America, I specially encourage you to apply, as I really like to have a diversity of volunteers!
* My project is a donation based place on the Camino Primitivo, one of the Caminos de Santiago (St James Way). If you have been a pilgrim, great. Otherwise, send me a short message first to check if I still need people for the period you plan to come, before spending some time to get familiar with what the camino and receiving pilgrims is about. There is loads of info online, including movies, documentaries, blogs, etc.
* Volunteers or Hospitaleros as they are called at pilgrims places are there to make the stay of pilgrims nice and enjoyable, after a long and often heavy hike of many hours, over the mountains.
* You will have the chance to work independently and develop your skills. You can partly choose the tasks, between gardening, housekeeping, cooking. I am quite flexible and with normally 3-4 volunteers around, the real workload is just a couple of hours per day, some days it can be more, but most days not above 3 hours.
* I am based in a quiet village, in a couple of minutes walking you are in nature, surrounded by mountains. Still, the village has services such a supermarkets, 5 bars/pubs/cafes/restaurants and even a swimming pool in summer.

I have broad experience dealing with volunteers, also with other sites. I do no want to play the boss, I just overview, be present and available, and participate when needed. When you arrive, I will take the time to give you an explanation of what needs to be done, how things work. But then, you are really expected to perform the tasks without being asked to do so. (At least basic regular cleaning, dishes, laundry, put new sheets, cook, keep the place organised). In other words, you have to be a self starter, show initiative. That way we will get along. The idea is to have a nice time together. Based on what volunteers write me at the end of their stay, they are having a nice time and enjoy what they did and how they could contribute

I had a really good time here. The volunteers were great and Stef is an open and well traveled person. I got the opportunity to paint a mural and was given pretty much free reign to do what I wanted as long as the tone was happy so I highly recommend to other artists:) The donativo is located in a pretty small town so definitely be prepared for that but it’s a really beautiful place and you get to meet people from all over the world. Truly a great experience, I highly recommend this experience, especially if you want to meet international travelers!!

Here you never feel like you're working, just taking care of your lovely home. The tasks are very easy and you have plenty of time to explore the local culture and beautiful landscapes in the area. You have the chance to interact with amazing piligrims by having dinner with them. It's incredible how many laughs we had at every meal. The healty food we cooked from the garden was a huge plus. On top of all Stef is an amazing, well traveled and well organized person, it was a pleasure meeting him. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for an authentic experience.

I had a fantastic time working at this albergue. Situated alongside El Camino de Santiago, you are sure to meet interesting people from around the entire globe. If you intend to practice your Spanish, there will assuredly be individuals along the way who would be happy to speak with you. Additionally, the host speaks Spanish, alongside 4 other languages, so it’s a great place to practice Spanish.

Additionally, the Donativo is located in a beautiful small village, with fascinating cultural architecture, including the White Church and the Cienfuegos Palace, as well beautiful day hikes. 10/10!

I cannot express how amazing this experience truly was! The Donativo instantly felt like home, and the volunteers like family. The pilgrims that would stay were all incredibly interesting, each with a different nationality and story. The work load was more than fair, and honestly it didn’t even feel like work. I highly reccommend this experience to anyone who is looking to explore the gem that is norther Spain!
