Dupa Gard - the Permaculture homestead in the Carpathian Mountains

We are a family run project, dedicated to the principals of ecoculture, permaculture and believe in the power of a strong, local community. In order to share our ideas and ideals with the world, we invite tourists to our homestead, to give them the opportunity to experience a long forgotten, sustainable way of living - that might be the blueprint for a better future. If you feel the energy in you to support us, and have some skills in the relevant area, we hope to make our project more known to the world and make it a better place in the long run.

Ioana, over 20 years already, has one big dream: to help her mothers village preserve its unique lifestyle, traditions and nature for future generations. For this she directed several small documentaries about local traditions, invited volunteer groups and supported the local artisans. Then she met Andreas in 2015, they had a child, and the project gained some new inspiration. Since then we managed to set up our small, self sustaining homestead with permaculture garden, as well as a connected eco-tourism ground. We are very excited to let other people experience our lifestyle, and hope you will also like it. Actually, we are pretty sure you will :)

I got very lucky with my first Worldpackers experience being at Dupa Gard. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in or passionate about permaculture, small scale farming, & just being in nature in general to come here:) Andreas, Ioana, & Dhalia were so welcoming, and put so much energy into making me feel comfortable and also took me with them to so many near by places on our off days . The work load was very reasonable & Andreas also let me take on a creative project of building 2 trellis's for their beans:) Dupa Gard is a very special and magical place to visit💛

My time with Andreas, Ioana & Dhalia was so fun. I learnt so much about Romanian culture and history & got to spend a lot of time hanging out with Dhalia - so if you like kids you’ll have the best time! I’m grateful for the awesome conversations I had with Andreas while working in the gardens & learning about permaculture. I also got the chance to taste some incredible food & exchange cool travel stories with them both too. The surrounding areas were amazing, I loved going for hikes and afternoon walks behind the property and seeing the moon rise over the Carpathian Mountains every night

This experience at dupa Gard was one of the best of my life… I mean, Andreas and Ioana were so welcome with me, they always make sure that I feel like I am at home. Then, the work was very interesting ! I mean a loooot about permaculture, nature.. and also about the roumanian culture. I had the chance to cook a lot for the dfamily (like compote, marmelade…) and it was so cool! I really recommend this experience for people who like true story and true experience

My time with Ioana and Andreas was truly special, they’re two of the most caring and generous people I've met. They always made sure I was learning about permaculture and about Romanian culture and traditions. My day to day work would vary from working in the garden to helping setting up the accommodation for their guests. During my free time, I got to go hiking, explore the towns nearby and they even took me to a local festival in the mountains. If you want to really connect with nature, see amazing views and eat some of the freshest locally-produced foods, I can’t recommend this enough!

Dupa Gard is one of the coolest place in Romania and the hosts Andreas and Ioana are awesome. I was about to shoot videos for their YouTube channel, get in touch with nature, meet locals and work on cool projects for the permaculture. Highly recommended
