Espaanglisch

Founded in 2005, Espaanglisch is an NGO based in Trujillo, Peru that’s dedicated to providing education to underprivileged communities in Peru, creating opportunities for language and cultural exchange, and supporting local initiatives that make a positive impact on our community. Our vision is to empower individuals and organizations who, through their growth, will positively impact our community and the world.

We offer you the opportunity to have an experience that is exciting, challenging, rewarding, and, potentially, life-changing. Our years of experience have allowed us to refine and develop our teaching methodology which you would be utilizing while working in our programs. Further, we offer you an experience that goes beyond the classroom in which you have the chance to socialize with locals and volunteers from other organizations and experience Peru through numerous, fun activities.

There is an accommodation fee of $180 USD per month which includes a dormitory room, wifi, shared bathrooms, and free use of the kitchen.

Our team members include our staff - David H. Mercedes (Founder), Mario Mercedes (English Online Director), and Sierra Vorsheim (Communications Coordinator) - plus our dedicated local and international volunteers. We are available to answer any questions and to help you out if any difficulties arise.

Espaanglisch is a special place, I gained a lot from my experience there. Volunteering with the kids was an easy and lighthearted activity, meeting locals and getting the chance to form connections with them was an unexpected but valuable opportunity, and exploring around Trujillo was always an adventure. I have a lot of things I could say, but words could not explain what my time in Trujillo meant to me. I would mention that knowing a decent amount of Spanish could be very helpful to you, but overall people are kind if your Spanish skills (like me) are quite bad!

I had a wonderful time as a volunteer at Espaanglisch! Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and made me feel at home. Trujillo has unique food, museums, and a beach town that’s easy to get to. I helped with classes 4 times per week and did lots of activities related to the program, so volunteering days are very full usually. I learned a lot about communities in Trujillo and teaching English. There are opportunities to meet locals like community dinners and the conversation program. Thanks to all the friends who made my experience at Espaanglisch so amazing!

My time in Trujillo staying with David was truly a wonderful and eye-opening experience. Interacting with and teaching the kids that were apart of the program was a very fulfilling opportunity. They are very excited to learn and all of them were very special kids. Trujillo was a fun city to live in with cool things to see, just be prepared to pay for your own transportation to the neighborhoods where the kids live by taxi and also for all of your own food/meals, drinking water, rent, etc.

I really had a great time in Peru with espaanglisch you meet locals that are really nice and show you around in Peru, you meet the children that are very sweet and kind. It was definitely an experience I will remember my whole life. What i especially appreciated is that David takes the time to make a videocall so you know what to expect. You pay for the place to sleep you have no food included but it’s very worth it! You get to live in a hostel and if your lucky you can have a private room! I really had a crazy experience there I could go on for pages but you have to see it yourself!

I had an amazing time at Espaanglisch! David is a great host who makes you feel very comfortable and welcomed. The work with the children is really nice, pedagogic and doesnt even feel like work. Beside the english classes, we did lots of activities and had lots of fun. You also get to meet other volunteers as the house welcomes another NGO's volunteers + the conversation classes allows you to meet peruvians so that's also very cool. The housing is very nice and in a good neighborhood. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer! 100% recommand!
