We've had really great experiences hosting volunteers. Rather than sharing our perspective, here's a sampling of what volunteers have said about us... "We stayed here for four months and had a fantastic experience! Ryan and Corina are the most wonderful hosts you could imagine. They are so generous with their time. They are working toward an inspiring vision, and their enthusiasm is infectious. They are amazingly energetic, ambitious, knowledgeable, respectful, good communicators, clear in their expectations, and they endeavor to match you up with the right work. They're also playful and love to have fun, whether playing a board game or taking a crew to play ultimate frisbee. We loved going night snorkeling with the group. We could always rely on them for suggestions on local attractions and restaurants. They provided all the vegan food we could ever want, which was perfect for us! The property is amazing with the best location on the island, and there is so much to do including snorkeling, swimming, scuba, biking, jogging, hanging out at the beach, enjoying the stars, becoming acquainted with the local critters, and getting to know the other wonderful volunteers. The work was challenging but we learned a ton! The tasks were so varied and covered lots of different skill sets. We definitely improved our knowledge, skills, and confidence. Ryan and Corina are two remarkable, welcoming, and inspiring people. Getting to know them, the locals, and other [volunteers] was an absolute pleasure. I left St. Croix with soo many new friends! I also left with many new skills and confidence using power tools. My favorite project I worked on was creating the hotel signage on locally sourced mahogany wood. I also got to put in some extra hours and work with Corina cleaning corals. Other projects included composting, housekeeping, painting, and other general maintenance projects. Every work day varied and it always made things exciting! I highly recommend this [experience] for anyone looking to work hard and have fun! Definitely bring some comfy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. I stayed with Ryan and Corina for about 6 weeks this spring, and I will never forget my experience. Ryan and Corina are the most kind, genuine, and down to earth people I've ever met. They always go above and beyond to include [volunteers] in their adventures, whether it be snorkeling, day trip around the island, running errands, sight seeing, board games, movies nights, etc. They taught me SO much during my stay, from plant based- vegan living, to the history of the island, to masonry work, painting, cooking 100% vegan food, and SO much more. From the second I hopped off the plane I felt so warmly welcomed and there was always an open line for communication if I needed assistance with anything. If you get the opportunity to help them out with this amazing project, do not hesitate. I cannot wait to see the progression of the Inn, as Ryan and Corina have an amazing dream coming to life on the property. They truly create such an amazing environment for [volunteers] to learn, exchange conversation and grow as individuals. It was my first [volunteer travel] experience and I truly could not have asked for a better one. The work is pretty physically demanding, but that makes it all the more rewarding. It is also so cool to see how much you can accomplish. I did everything from cleaning rooms, to doing carpentry work in the cook house, to power washing and painting the roof of the mill. I learned so many new skills and feel so much more competent with power tools. I also realized that in almost every situation, I was stronger than I thought I was... While the work was fun and rewarding, what made the experience so great was the people that were there. Ryan and Corina are so kind and open to everyone. They are happy to teach you new skills and support you in the projects that you are working on. I felt so at home while I was staying with them and think that I am a better person now because of their kindness. I also think that good people attract good people, and the people that they have volunteering with them are some of the kindest, most interesting people I have ever met. I had so much fun exploring St. Croix with everyone and now I have friends for life. I hope that someday I will get to return. If you have the time and the interest... choose this one..." -P "I can't recommend staying with Ryan and Corina highly enough! We were so well looked after- amazing nutritious food, great accommodation and Ryan and Corina were so helpful and accommodating for anything else we needed. We made great use of the bikes and the snorkel equipment to enjoy the beautiful island and surrounding water, we also enjoyed yoga sessions and lots of arts and crafts.... [We] really got to experience the island culture, like the Agricultural Festival, Folklife Festival, Emancipation Day and Pride Parade, which were all amazing. It was great to work with a larger group of volunteers- to get to know people from all different places with different stories. I was lucky enough to have the roll of cooking for everyone as part of my work so I got to learn a lot about vegan cooking, we were also shown how to do tasks for renovation which was also great to learn. It was also great to be involved in a project that strives to have a low environmental impact and to learn about the great work into coral reef restoration that is happening.
