Hotel Ecologico Finca Ixobel

Volunteering at Finca Ixobel is a great opportunity to meet people from all over and to experience the Guatemalan culture. Practice your Spanish or visit the nearby town and mingle with the locals . Enjoy your down time by partaking in our activities such as horseback riding, caving and walks through the jungle and pine forest. We are also in an area with lots to do, Tikal and Flores a nearby as well as Rio Dulce.

HOW TO GET HERE:
From Guatemala city:
Take a bus with either Fuente Del Norte or San Cristobal and get off in Poptun.

We are a family run ecological hotel/guest house in a unique setting of pine forest and jungle, located on 400 acres. We have horses and other animals. Our main attractions are the restaurant, bakery and the hotel/campground. We look for people who can do a variety of chores like help out in the restaurant and hotel. There are always small DYI projects going as well. We also look for people with special talents like social media, animal care and construction. We are in a relaxed environment and easy going.

Finca Ixobel has the potential to be a great experience. The finca is so beautiful, the swimming pond is amazing, you have access to so much food, the host is really open and flexible about working and hours, the host allowed us to use a car to go to the river or into town, and the staff can be really caring and kind.

The horses are very wild, they will kick and bite. This job is best for people very experienced w/ horses. Speaking Spanish is also very important. It is difficult to navigate the work and finca without spanish.

I had a great experience working with the horses and riding. The finca is a beautiful place where you are immersed in nature. The volunteer bedrooms and outdoor showers are just the basics. Full access to the kitchen. It often doesn't feel like any indoor space exists, you are always outside with spiders, tarantulas, ticks, etc. and this should be considered seriously.
Riding on the trails was absolutely incredible and there was so much freedom in the work. I met other kind and fun volunteers, but there was no leadership to guide us and few safety standards with the horses.

The experience I had at the Finca was life-changing. I have never been surrounded by such like-minded, caring, genuine souls that want to help wherever they can! I felt so accepted here, and the work with the horses felt like an added bonus! The horses at the Finca are beautiful, albeit the riding is incredibly different to English, it was empowering to see how the horses’ souls are kept unbroken!
I will forever cherish my time at the Finca, and will never forget the people I met along my journey here, and cannot wait to come back at some point in the future!

What an amazing experience ! We had so much fun that we stayed a bit longer.
Maria is a super host, fun and interesting, the restaurant team are nice and help us learn Spanish and the shop team are patient and passionate. We feed the horses, clean them and ride them around la Finca’s jungle. Sometimes we planted some trees and help in the kitchen service. (And so much more)
I really recommend this volunteer job and I would definitely come back. Thanks for everything ! ⭐️🫶🏼
