House of Kona

This is a small farm in a beautiful location with plenty of learning opportunities. Kona Hawaii is one of the most expensive cities in America to visit. We offer an opportunity for travelers to be able to afford this destination and its beauty.

We have acquired this property 10 years ago and have been committed to developing it since. As we grow older we find the need for more help. We believe that we are kind and generous which we attempt to extend to everyone.

The work was tiring sometimes but that was okay. Due to the fact that 6 Worldpackers were staying at the same time, it seemed that Michelle was quite stressed. This led to us having some discussion with her, because of her behavior towards us, but we were able to resolve on both sides. When it was just the two of us with Michelle, we had such a great time and could see that she is very lovely and caring. She even organized a tour around the island for all of us which was amazing. We found the 4 weeks to be beautiful and are grateful to have been here. Thanks to Michelle, Eric and Makale (🐈)

I absolutely agree I tried to be too accommodating. I allowed the overlap of 6 volunteers staying. During those times, I must confess to be overwhelmed. I am sorry. That is on me. I can promise I have learned my lesson, and that will not happen again. I am just sorry it had repercussions during your stay. I bid you safe and prosperous travels. Mahalo.

The home and the accommodations were wonderful! We got to borrow a truck, we got good food, and we met so many travelers from all around the world! Although these were wonderful, there were many challenging days. Myself and my husband felt disrespected and were told many times we were “volunteers, not guests”. The work is also challenging, most of what we did was weeding, and our skills that we had discussed ahead of time weren’t really utilized. Although the difficulties, we did get to make some great friends with other travelers. And I will be remembering this experience for a lifetime.

I am sorry you felt disrespected. I did my best to treat you like family. I cooked for you, did all your laundry , provided transportation, and involved you on our special outings. Other than your responsibilities for work trade, I provided for an extensive portion of expenses that are usually not included in these arrangements. Anna you are a great person, and i enjoyed having you. I hope you do well in the future with you culinary adventures. Bon chance. Aloha.

The property and accommodations are incredible. It is a beautiful place to stay near town. We were also able to use a truck to get to town and the beach which was awesome. Michelle is a good cook as well and we were fed some really nice meals during our stay.

However, I often felt like I was walking on egg shells during my stay and was talked to disrespectfully many times. This made it hard to feel comfortable while staying in the house.

There were other travelers there with us, who became friends quickly, which was definitely a highlight. Hawaii is a beautiful island (:

It was a wonderful experience, I learned a lot about the island and myself, I was able to improve my English and met other lovely volunteers. I did mostly cleaning and weeding, the work could be hard, but I think it's a good exchange because the cost of living is higher in Hawaii. Michelle and Eric are great and interesting hosts, they have a beautiful house and the food was amazing. Michelle is strict, but if you follow the rules and maintain good communication, you will be fine. They are generous and try to make it easy for you to explore the island. I am very grateful for this experience.

Constanza Is a beautiful person. I enjoyed her immensely. She was patient, kind, and hard working. Three things I honer in an individual. She always greeted you with a gentle smile. She will always be one of my favorite volunteers. I entertained 6 volunteers in times of her stay. I must admit that was a mistake on my part, but she never gave me any drama and actually was a comfort in my stressful times. It was astonishing that she had the largest language barrier to overcome, and yet she understood the most. Thank you for an amazing experience Constanza. Mahlo and aloha!

This was my first experience with Worldpackers and it couldn’t have been better. Hawaii sells itself, it’s a magical place and you can be ready to meet a lot of nice people and see incredible places. Michelle and Eric are wonderful. Their property is so beautiful, the food is always perfect and with respect and mutual communication everything went smoothly. The work is very physical and it can get tough, we did mostly weeding but also got to use new cool tools. We learned a lot while working and I can assure you every weed is worth it. Mahalo Michelle and Eric for being such good hosts! 🌺

Ainhoa was a bright beam of electric passion, that light up our farm. she motivated enthusiasm and joy in every way. Her work ethic energized even me. Any one who has the chance to spend time with her should grab it. I would have her back any time. Make sure you include her best friend Marta. They come as a pair. Mahalo to you Ainhoa (and Marta)! My warmest Aloha.
