Ivy League is an upcoming community social project that runs a school and a medical center both for the poorest people of Thika. We are located inside the slum complex of Kiandutu, Kiganjo and Athena areas. Our main job is to give free or highly subsidized education and excellent, subsidized health care to the least fortunate and forgotten in our society. We some
William is a successful safari guide often taking clients to Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and other parks. When he is not busy at work, he is busy at Ivy League helping. We welcome volunteers especially teachers, medical workers and social workers to work with us to help our community. What we need most is a willing heart and an open mind. You can have any profession but still make a difference in our school or medical center.

I had a wonderful time in at Ivy League Academy in Thika with William’s family. William really treats you like family and wants you to have a really good experience there. He has hosted over 100 volunteers so his family is very experienced with these experiences.
William has an amazing and clear vision/plan for where he wants to take this project and he’s very open about all the details and challenges that go into it. The school has lovely students who are very excited to learn. The school has a special welcome/goodbye parties for you. I miss everyone so much! Thank you William!

I do not recommend this volunteering. Most of the agreements I made with William were not fulfilled. I did not teach, as he said. I did not help organizing the school, as he said. I did not help with new school projects, as he said. The only help that will be appreciated in here is how much money you can give or get by finding sponsors for the school. Money which is not invested in the school. It is expected from you to share all you do in your personal social media. We agreed I will stay for two months, however, William asked me to leave during the second week. Accommodation and food were ok.

Ivy League Academy es un hermoso proyecto con un impacto social muy grande en la vida de las niñas, niños y adolescentes. Durante mi estadía pude realizar muchas actividades desde recreación, clases y hasta la construcción de un patio. Sin duda fue una experiencia que transformó mi vida ya que el proyecto es un espacio seguro para la comunidad escolar. Me gustaría destacar que para vivir la experiencia es importante es tener flexibilidad ya que la organización cambia según el acontecer y trabajar la comunicación asertiva para que puedas tener una buena estancia. Buena experiencia con los niños, siempre es agradable jugar con ellos y tuve una gran oportunidad de diseñar y construir un espacio abierto para ellos casi si ningún problema. La organización y la comida podrían mejorar.

Mi experiencia en este voluntariado fue muy buena, Will es un host presente y con disposición a ayudarnos en lo que pidiéramos, aunque esta ocupado con otros proyectos, nos escucho y apoyó en lo que queríamos lograr. Las horas en la escuela son más de las acordadas, pero si eres un voluntario motivado, puedes hacer muchas cosas distintas en la escuela, yo hice clases no solo de biología si no de más asignaturas, ayude en la cocina, etc. Thika también es un lugar muy agradable para estar, incluso ir a tomar una cerveza. Hice Safaris con la ayuda de Will. Fue una gran experiencia :)
