The hostel is located in the center of the town of Las Galeras, on the main road, close to everything, easy and convenient to reach. We speak Spanish, French, Italian and studying English. We think the hostel has the function of a real social network.
I am Haitian and my wife Barbara is Italian, we opened our hostel one and a half year ago and we need collaborators to make our guests feel at home. We offer shared room and shared kitchen. we are looking for people who are availble to work in all the necessary roles, in a friendly work environment. Free time and the chance to meet people from all over the world are guaranteed.

Barbara is a really nice person, however, they do nothing to enhance your stay my first volunteering went nothing as I expected, if you want to explore by your own las galeras Samana, go for it.
they exchange a bed for work that’s it. We even had some small disagreements with people working at the hostel and I found myself stressed at times, she has someone managing the hostel. the schedule varied the first week but then I was there 1pm-5 almost everyday leaving you no time to leave las galeras to explore nearby towns I feel they should be mindful that you’re there to travel.

La Ballena es un hostal súper bien ubicado en la calle principal de la ciudad. La habitación de los voluntarios es súper cómoda, las instalaciones son sencillas y todo siempre está limpio y organizado. Las actividades no son complejas, como recepción, check-in y check-out, limpieza de baños y dormitorios, organización de la cocina, barrer los espacios comunes. Bárbara sabe mucho sobre la región y es una persona para ayudarte a planificar tu viaje por el país, conoce muchos lugares y también gente local.

Esperienza unica e che consiglio di fare. La proprietaria è stata accogliente e mi ha fatto sentire come a casa dal primo giorno. Il lavoro si è svolto esattamente come da accordi presi prima della partenza. La location permette di stare in stretto contatto con la natura. Il mare, il sole e le spiagge de las Galeras sono un ricordo che porterò nel cuore per tutta la vita.

This was an amazing experience and it was my first time volunteering. La Ballena is such a great spot and Barbara was a great host and supported me through the had task of learning Spanish. It is possible to succeed in this position not knowing a lot of Spanish but it was a very very difficult experience for me. The other volunteers and the locals we met were the greatest part of this experience for me. I made so many memories I will never forget and life long friendships! Las Galeras is an amazing town with so much to explore and learn.

La mia esperienza presso La Ballena Hostel è stata incredibilmente positiva, l'ostello è stato come una casa per me. Gli orari e le richieste di lavoro erano esattamente come descritte sulla pagina di presentazione e lo staff è stato disponibile e gentile sin dall'inizio.
Ho avuto modo di conoscere persone fantastiche e migliorare notevolmente il mio spagnolo, consiglio questa struttura a chiunque stia cercando un'esperienza di immersione nella cultura locale e di grande contatto con la natura.
