Many volunteers and guests described our resort as a retreat, after the busy life in large cities and travelling around for long. In the countryside, time flows slowly. We are located in the deep countryside, so there are not many activities: make your own entertainment!
We require volunteers to work 4h per day, which leaves plenty of free time!
Between the mountains, with a river flowing inside the property, you can relax by the river. Play badminton or table tennis on the open ground. Look up at the starry sky at night. Explore the surroundings by bike or by walk. Talk with the local grannies and they may give you some fruits or vegetables!
Get away from the cities and enjoy countryside!
My name is Manon (French). I am currently alone and permanent staff. The Japanese owner sometimes comes. Our management team is not perfect and may not always seem as attentive as you wish it would be as the business demands their complete attention. I stayed 1 month during the low season (September), so I only worked 2 hours 5 days a week. I got my own cottage for half the time! The work was easy and I got the schedule the day before so I knew what to do. We cooked our own food, but the food was paid for by the company! All in all, a great deal! There is not much to do here, but Manon would take me on trips in our days off, which was a lot of fun! We went zip-lining, swimming in the ocean, visited shrines and temples and took a car trip to Tokushima!

I had a wonderful three-week experience at the resort, the hosts were really nice and easy to talk to. The tasks given were simple and that we usually finish by noon. Though it may take some time and effort to get to the resort, it's definitely worthy to give yourself a chance to live near the river and the trees!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Shimanto nature resort! Both Manon and Kazu were extremely friendly and welcoming, made sure I had everything I needed to do my tasks. The tasks were very simple and once completed, I had loads of free time to do whatever I wanted. The resort is a beautiful place with a river right in the middle. If you are wanting a place to relax and be around lots of nature, this is the perfect place!
