Nursery School Playtime and Animal Care

Volunteering with us gives travelers a chance to experience Japanese schools and to learn more about this aspect of Japanese culture. It also gives travelers a chance to do something meaningful in support of animal welfare in Japan. We hope to offer volunteers an interesting experience while in Japan, and a chance to make the community a better place. Our school programs foster international awareness and our animal programs foster positive relationships between humans and animals in the community.

We started our Kyoto program to help support animal welfare activities in Japan and to add international participation in our local schools. We think this is a win-win situation for the community as well as the volunteers who join our program. We are positive people, with an aim of having a positive impact. We are vegan and veg friendly, but not exclusive.

Being a volunteer in JCN was an amazing experience. The kids in the school program are adorable and funny and kyoto is a great city to explore. There were some issues with the house but I could see the host was trying to fix all problems, hope he suceeds in that. I feel truly grateful for this 4 weeks in kyoto, would totaly reccomend it to anyone who is intrested.

A lovely way to spend a month in one of the best cities in Japan. Worked in the school for 4 weeks, met a bunch of great people in the volounteer house and thoroughly explored Kyoto all at the same time. Working with kids was fulfilling and surprisingly made for some emotional goodbyes, and you leave feeling like you a little impact in their lives. Luis was a great host, very accomodating and understaning and a blast to party with. The program and its facilities seem to be improving everyday and I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like in future.

It was a great experience in a great city! Highly recommend. The JCN team is very helpful and always looking to improve. The housing situation had it's issues but Luis was active in acknowledging them and trying to improve. We feel sad to leave as we ended feeling at home in the city. The school programme is also a great way of getting to know more about Japanese culture while contributing to the local community.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time volunteering with JCN in the school program. The language barrier between volunteers and students and teachers is challenging, but you learn to communicate and interact effectively within a short amount of time. Luis, the program coordinator is wonderful. He really makes it a priority to make sure we are comfortable and takes our feedback very seriously. The volunteer house definitely needs a lot of maintenance, but at the end of the day it offers everything you’d need. It seems like management is taking steps to improve areas in the house. Thank you!

Staying at JCN in the beginning was a bit rocky as the houses were not in the best shape & we had to deep clean severely. But Luis was absolutely great in attempting to make the best situation for every volunteer. The cat program hours could be improved for volunteers to be able to explore more without being back at a certain time, but he was highly flexible. I appreciated the communication & understanding that Luis provided, & he is constantly making improvements to the houses to make them as comfortable as possible. Luis is also really funny, a gryffindor, & it ended up feeling like home!!!
