Westport is a very exciting place to be, especially during busy seasons. Volunteers are able to see this up close as the hostel is located in the heart of the town centre. Volunteers have their own separate accommodation (including bathroom) from the hostel so it's great to have your own space. You will volunteer for 5 days per week, roughly 4/5 hours depending on the day. This is often much less as all morning tasks can be completed faster depending on the number of checkouts. You will also have 2 days off where you are free to wander about Westport and its surroundings - this is also possible on the days when you are working.
We like for volunteers to feel like part of the team from the very beginning. Living in a hostel is a dynamic environment and there is always something new and interesting to discover. We aim for our volunteers to enjoy their time in Westport as much as possible for however long they stay with us. As it is a family-run hostel, there are only a few members of staff and this allows volunteers to develop close and interpersonal links with us all.

I had such an amazing stay at Old Mill Hostel! I met people from across the globe and learned so much about myself in the process. Westport is an amazing town, and the hostel is set right near the center. Working hours are respected and fellow staff are so friendly and welcoming. It was an amazing first volunteering experience and I hope to return someday!

The hostel staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and supportive. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel like a valued part of the team. I had so much fun with all the other volunteers! I would definitely recommend The Old Mill Holiday Hostel to anyone !! Westport is also such a cute little town and has some of the best pubs in Ireland 10/10 recommend it.

My experience at Old Mill was great! It felt like home and it was really great to immerse in the local culture. Niamh is a great host and she makes sure to spend time with the volunteers and make sure they are having a nice time in Westport. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and makes it feel like home away from home. Would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to get a taste of Irish culture.

I had a wonderful experience at the Old Mill hostel! Ireland is beautiful but Westport is just something else, it is really the best place to stay! Work is very easy, and when you finish working you have almost the whole day left for yourself to explore Ireland and hang out with the other volunteers. The host and the other girls are amazing, very patient, and helpful. Their kindness makes you feel at home. Huge thanks to all of them for making this experience unforgettable!❤️
