This Sanctuary has been a dream to materialize. I believe that honest work
shows a reflection of what is within one's heart! Kai, my hanai name, means "the sea," Kai is the Māori word for "food." There are typically 2 of us managing or caretaking the farm at any given time, with years of experience being a permaculture practitioner, with a deep knowledge of natural farming techniques, there is a lot to be learned and shared.
Respect is paramount here in Hawaii, please come with humility and the utmost respect for this project! The devotion and true honest sacrifice put into creating this beautiful sanctuary. One must be able to leave behind conditioned entitlements, and modern consumerism, and be capable of stepping out of the rat race mentality.
When it comes to the work ethic expected, there should be a true diligent effort and real care to focus on tasks. We are straightforward in what is expected and share detailed knowledge in teaching, with corrections of techniques being typical. Please be ready to follow directions and not be sensitive to being critiqued in the learning of a new task.
Low work hours with some very easy self-directed tasks, like hand watering duties. Other tasks can vary from permaculture, orchard care, gardens, eco-construction, and the like. Hard work!
At present hosting only 1, 2, or 3 volunteers at a time, certainly some solitude, it is essential that volunteers are mature enough to utilize this peaceful place in their ample free time.
