With a deep respect for the ancient Hawaiian culture, this project is creating a garden of Eden, an oasis with true food security and abundance for many generations to come! Food security for the local island community, with giving aloha, sharing with the kapuna, keiki, and those in need.

Making this a perfect opportunity to relax, rejuvenate, and contribute towards a righteous endeavor.

This Sanctuary has been a dream to materialize. I believe that honest work shows a reflection of what is within one's heart! Kai, my hanai name, means "the sea," Kai is the Māori word for "food." There are typically 2 of us managing or caretaking the farm at any given time, with years of experience being a permaculture practitioner, with a deep knowledge of natural farming techniques, there is a lot to be learned and shared. Respect is paramount here in Hawaii, please come with humility and the utmost respect for this project! The devotion and true honest sacrifice put into creating this beautiful sanctuary. One must be able to leave behind conditioned entitlements, and modern consumerism, and be capable of stepping out of the rat race mentality. When it comes to the work ethic expected, there should be a true diligent effort and real care to focus on tasks. We are straightforward in what is expected and share detailed knowledge in teaching, with corrections of techniques being typical. Please be ready to follow directions and not be sensitive to being critiqued in the learning of a new task. Low work hours with some very easy self-directed tasks, like hand watering duties. Other tasks can vary from permaculture, orchard care, gardens, eco-construction, and the like. Hard work! At present hosting only 1, 2, or 3 volunteers at a time, certainly some solitude, it is essential that volunteers are mature enough to utilize this peaceful place in their ample free time. Molokai has world-class scenic sites that are on par with anywhere in the world!

My stay at Bret's farm was great. I'm so glad that I was able to experience Molokai and the work was pretty straight forward - we worked Wednesdays, Saturdays + Sundays for 7 hours with additional watering duties. I did lots of painting, organizing, watering and cleaning. The accommodation is pretty simple - a tent on a raised platform - but I was comfortable. The farm is essentially off grid so there's no appliances in the kitchen - just a propane stove - which pushed me to get creative with meals. The land is beautiful and Molokai is a very special place. Thanks Bret!

My days on Molokai with Bret was pretty good. His farm is a huge farm with many fruits options to picking up and eating. Here I ate the best mango I have ever eaten in whole my entire life. Bret provides fruits and some beans, cereal, rices and pasta for us. The area with the shower is an amazing place to taking a shower after a day working hard. The job is ok if you are a man with disposition and strength, I dug some holes, watered the plants and helped with others tasks with cleaning and painting.
Bret is a good man who is worried with the planet and the future and he is making his part!

Molokai a is very special island, you have to go look and find the places and that Is a little difficult without a car but people is super nice, you can easily get rides and different activities with locals.
The farm is rustic but very comfortable, it has exactly what you need. Bret is a really nice guy, easy to work and talk and he make the best tofu that I ever had! So grateful with you and with Hawaii for been so welcoming and warm! Thank you so much for the amazing 5 weeks and “hasta pronto” :)

You will get out of this experience what you put in, I had an amazing time on Molokai and I could confidently say there would be very few volunteer positions in Hawaii that could compare to this one in regards to experiencing true Hawaii, and living with nature. If you understand that you will be living rustic and willing to give up some comforts I guarantee you will have a once in a lifetime experience. Molokai is not a mind blowing island like Oahu or Maui but it is still full of spectacular surprises. Bret is a real solid dude, hard working and fun. Quiet, friendly, natural, this is Molokai

Happiness starts from within and takes one on to higher levels of gratitude and fun experiences! Right on Stephen! Molokai is such a special and unique island, its really the only Hawaiian which has said ''No to over development corporate greed and exploitation''. Molokai has held its value of staying pristine with nature being its true authority. It holds many off the beaten sites, mystical valleys, and beaches. Some majestic sites are so breathtaking that they can rival any destination in the world !!!

I do see all the hard work Brett put in and I do admire his efforts, yet some things he said and did I found to be not so awesome. I had very open conversations with him throughout my stay, about what concerned me, and I doubt his character is going to change.

Nicolas is correct , I have a very strong work ethic and believe passionately about sustainability and living with a real respect for nature. Sadly Nicolas is suffering from an intense alcoholism and substances abuse issues, only so much advice can be given to an individual which daily gets as sloppy drunk as possible within 5 minutes of ending work. I truly hope he gets the help his hurt inner child needs. I encourage volunteers to have fun , being centered around personal grow and spiritual well being. Peace
