I'm a native of the Costa Rican Caribbean coast and passionate about all its nature. I work with Sea Turtles since a while. I'm passionate about the marine and coastal ecosystem of Costa Rica and want to be part of its protection. For me it is not only a fauna and flora conservation project but also a work solution for the future of the local population and raising awareness of new generations. I work mostly with local people who used to work in banana plantations.

Loved my time volunteering with Johnny and his family. The work was challenging but not too much and got to do a good mix of activities. Three lovely meals a day and was never hungry. Facilities were good considering the remote location.

I loved my time at the refuge! Johnny and the team were so lovely and really made you feel at home. We had a good amount of work / chill time and the area is just beautiful. It’s a very basic set up but for spending time off the beaten track in Costa Rica it is perfect!

Loved my stay at this project. We worked for a few hours a day and relaxed/went to the beach for the rest of it. We had a bunch of turtles one afternoon and it was an unforgettable experience. Host was so welcoming and food is great if you like rice and beans. Would’ve stayed longer if I could’ve.

My experience at Laguna Urpiano was so refreshing! Johnny and his family were very welcoming and accommodating to the needs of me and my friends. The experience was very rewarding and eye opening to a new culture and environment. We were fully immersed in the the jungle and saw lots of wild life and nature. It is what you make it, and we had the best time!

- it’s a remote island, be prepared
- research into when the turtle season begins and ends
- insect repellent
- sunscreen
- books/entertainment
- snacks
