A guesthouse in Lagos, Algarve that offers accommodation, a bar/cafe and we plan on starting lots of fun activities and events. We want to host pizza nights, movie nights, poetry slams, stand up comedy, music concerts, art exhibits and hosting a range of workshops and classes such as yoga, surfing, painting and much more. That is the concept that we are looking to create, but since we are starting out we will begin by opening first the guesthouse and the bar. We welcome ideas for events and activities :)
We offer accommodation, kitchen and fridge at your disposal for your meals (you must buy your own food), you may propose and help organize events. We require 5 hours of work per day, 2 days off per week. After your first 5 days of work you will get your first 2 days off. Your tasks will mainly be cleaning and bartending. Bear in mind that the staff dorm is located in the basement which has not been renovated yet, the dorm has windows and is furnished with bunk beds, table and lockers, please see picture. At the moment we can only host women as the volunteers stay in a shared all female dorm with a capacity of 6 people.

The guesthouse is in a perfect position, just 5 minutes walking from the amazing beach and 15 minutes from the center of Lagos. The hours of work were respected, it has been a nice experience.

SolemCabana is a really nice place to work and live. The staff living conditions was very good. The bedroom was clean and the staff area also includes our own kitchen and bathroom although they weren’t completely ready due to renovations but will be shortly if not already. The work in the bar is fun and I got to learn how to use the coffee machine and make cocktails. One issue that did not sit well with me was that if you were unable to work (even if you’re sick or injured) you will have to pay to stay the night with a 50% discount. The other volunteers were amazing and I had a lot of fun.

The city is amazing, perfect to enjoy a great time and meet people from all around the world, the location of SolemCabana is 5 minutes by foot from 3 wonderful beaches and 15 from the center city.
The hours are well respected, in the firts two weeks the work was more hard because we were clining and preparing to the opening of the bar, but after that was esier and we had the chance to try been a bartender! Even after a little miscomunication with Jon was a good experience, everything is about comunication and he's a really nice guy. I had a good time there!

SolemCabana is exactly 5-10 minutes walk to the beach, which I really liked. Daily tasks implied cleaning the common areas ( kitchen staff, bathrooms) the guest rooms after checkout, the bar ( it wasn't open yet) and the terrace, hours worked were respected. We only had a pizza&movie night & a sunset at Ponta de Piedade. There were no other events or parties and about the discounts there was only one for surfing lessons, also we could use the bikes and the kayaks. The downside was the volunteers room which is in a basement and the room is not finished yet, has no floor and too much dust.

Thank you for your feedback. We have improved the volunteers room, now it has more privacy and comfort. There is a wall with a door and each volunteer gets one desk, one chair, one bed and one locker. Also now the bar is open and the club is open everyday between April and September. The new volunteers will get a new, more complete experience :)

Tasks involved cleaning rooms & common areas as the bar was not open.Unfortunately the room we stayed in was a dusty, unfinished basement with no privacy or windows. The dust made it difficult to breath & was bad for my chest so it was disappointing living in that type of space. Hours worked per day and days off where agreed & organised correctly, I wanted 2 particular days off which was agreed & I appreciated that. A sunset & pizza night was organised but no parties, hikes/ tours etc. I was very sick one day & I asked to finish early but unfortunately I still ended up working my full shift.
