Stella Maris Hostel

We are are a relaxed hostel in the downtown historic district of Wilmington, North Carolina. Live music, restaurants, cafes, and bars are a short walk away, as well as a few beaches within a 15-20 minute drive. The airport/central bus station is also only a short 10-15 minute drive away! The hostel offers a chill vibe and a surprisingly diverse crowd passing through. Our hostel is an old home, refitted to hostel life. It has a real charm to it, and we want to attract artistic/creative people who are interested in making music/art, hanging out with the guests, and connecting with others.

P.S. - We have some really comfortable beds!

At the Stella Maris Hostel we love a chill, fun environment but we take cleanliness and hospitality seriously. The volunteer staff will have a bunk provided in one of our dorms, fridge/shelf space, free laundry and breakfast. All we ask for is on average 16 hours of your week (a few hours a day) for cleaning/bed making, and we can be flexible on days off if anyone has a trip in mind. Other than that, volunteers are part of the Stella Crew and we like to get out and explore Wilmington and the surrounding areas after everything is said and done for the day!

My stay with Stella Maris was great! Mady was such a fantastic host. She was so welcoming, supportive, and kind to not only me, but all the guests and other staff. I was able to meet so many wonderful people and make lots of new friends. The work-trade itself is more than fair; tasks mostly consist of basic housekeeping and cleaning. Would absolutely recommend staying here. Thank you guys so much for everything!

Unfortunately, this maybe a cute place, but not ran like one, pretty much an air bnb, but Ran by no one, from day one we had to show ourselves around for a tour, guest would be sitting outside either for hours in the heat or all night outside just waiting for codes, zero delegation, no one around for our days off so we had to work so the angry and upset guests, we slept in our car because the place was too full, then the police woke us up to say it's illegal that we had to go pay for a hotel, following that the owner is always sad.asked to leave without notice. Just not ok. We are good people!

At first we thought this hostel was pretty nice and cozy.
After couple days we realized that it’s not well maintained, staff is not communicative, no space for our stuff in the room, no team meeting, no infos/directions.
We were asked to leave to sleep in our car one night because the beds were full there. Then, the owner asked us to leave without any reason.
We did everything and more to help this place.
We drove from SF to Wilmington just because we wanted to help them. That was definitely a waste of time.

This was my first experience with Worldpackers and it was so awesome! Super small hostel but very charming and nice to stay at. Work is simple and easy, plus the owners are super cool and nice! Wilmington is a super fun place and the location of the hostel is perfect to explore shops and restaurants downtown plus the riverwalk is beautiful. Met plenty of cool travelers passing though and it’s an experience I’ll always remember! :))
