We need wooden stairs built to make it easy to get in and out of our 10' x 10' tree house. At present it is accessed by a ladder through a trap door. We want you to build a staircase that rises about 8 feet, with a platform (tiny deck) at the top, and to install a door in the side of the tree house. We will supply materials and tools, and can arrange for a helper when needed. Other projects are available if you wish to extend your stay.

Programa detallado

There are ALWAYS projects that we can use help with, but the tree house staircase has the first priority. If you are hoping to stay longer there are definitely other projects, let me know if this is the case. You can have your choice of staying in a dorm bed or we have some tents if you prefer. Our offer includes your lodging, there is free pancake mix and jellies, eggs, and tea in the mornings if you like but you have to cook them yourself. When the staircase project is completed I will buy you a prime rib dinner, up to three beverages of your choice, and dessert, at the Turtle Club in Fox, Alaska. (And we will provide the transportation.) You will be working at the direction of a local carpenter, so you do not have to design the work. We will provide the necessary tools and materials, and arrange for a helper when needed.

Actividades & Turnos

Hours are flexible but within reason; because construction can be noisy, please plan to work between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
I request you work a total of twenty one hours a week for this exchange. You may choose which days to work and for how long each day.
I estimate this project should require a total of 63 work hours which would exchange as three weeks lodging. You may work more hours at the beginning if you want to have more days off at the end. However you may not take your days off before you do the work!

There is no smoking of any kind allowed in the hostel or near the entrances. There are designated areas where smoking is allowed outdoors.
Alcohol is prohibited on the grounds. If you are of legal age in Alaska (21 or over) it is not our business if you want to have an alcoholic beverage away from the hostel, but we expect you not to bring containers back to the hostel, and not to be disruptive in behavior.
No outside guests at the hostel. Some exceptions to this rule may be allowed with prior approval from the host. It is very important we know who is on the grounds at all times.
The host in residence (Alex) is the authority at all times; it is the hosts responsibility to maintain an appropriate atmosphere for all guests. This means we expect you to accept any decisions the host may make that might impact you. (Don't worry, everyone loves Alex! But he is the boss!)
