El intercambio

Hi there - my name is Roy and I’ve enjoyed hosting volunteers for nearly ten years now, it’s been great! They've been part of my family for however long or short you’ve stayed at Movie Farm: getting to know my Highland Cattle, helping with fencing and maintenance, looking after my guests and their accommodation. Volunteer-wise, I'll let you know what there is to be done but I aim to treat you like friends and adults: you make the choices :-)

Actividades & Turnos

Cattle round is a fixed point in the can help here. You might help introduce visitors to animals. The afternoon might see you preparing for incoming guests. Then there's all the hands on farmwork like slashing weeds (no sprays) an fixing fences before you might head off for a bike ride (supplied) or hike. Shifts don’t work for me- it’s flexible, every day is different and every task is done by agreement. We all help each other.

Only two rules and one guiding principle.
1. We eat the evening meal together: otherwise, where’s the sense of community?
2. We have a meeting at 9 am 5 days a week to review previous tasks and set roles for the new day.
The guiding principle of sharing our time is ‘Social Intelligence’. This means that we judge our actions in the understanding of their impact on those we share with: for good or bad- rather than the effect on our own singular welfare.
