Ciao! We are Annemarie, Tom, and Sam, a little family who since 2 years left the Netherlands for a live in the Italian countryside. We started selling our own organic olive oil and will open a small sustainble B&B in 2024. Whilst conducting our office jobs now parttime and remotely, we have more time to garden, engage in DIY projects, start a small-scale farm and cook home-grown organic food! There are 4 ha of land, and we produce organic olive oil, have sown a green cover crop and have some fruit trees, bees and a vegetable garden.
Volunteers are expected to help 5 hours per day, five days per week. Tasks and activities hours can be discussed , but we prefer from around 8 to 13.30. Sometimes a hand is needed in the weekend.You can help in the vegetable garden (all year), harvest olives (November), plant trees (fall, spring), prune plants and trees (winter and early spring), paint walls and furniture (indoors and outdoors, year-round). Your help is also desired for general maintenance of the land and house (such as chipping wood from prunings, mowing grass, weeding, turning compost heaps), and help in to-be-developed future projects (such as developing a food forest, expanding the vegetable and flower gardens, constructing a greenhouse, building fences, planting hedges, building an outdoor kitchen, etc). This is a hands-on experience! :)
We speak fluent English, Dutch and German, and can also communicate clearly in Italian and Spanish. We are interested to have conversations, learn about your culture and skills, We can exchange during shared meals, but we won't be with you all the time, and you should not be afraid to work for several hours alone (or with other volunteers), or to explore the region by your own transport means. You need to have your own health or travel insurance. We can pick you up from the train station.
