Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre offers the opportunity to take part in meaningful, hands-on animal welfare work at an established rescue centre in southern Spain. Volunteers contribute directly to the daily care of rescued horses and donkeys, helping to maintain clean paddocks, support feeding routines, and ensure a calm, safe environment for animals who have often come from difficult backgrounds.

This is not a touristic or entertainment-based experience. It is ideal for people who value purposeful work, enjoy being outdoors, and want to make a tangible difference while experiencing a different culture and way of life. Volunteers leave with a strong sense of contribution, practical experience, and a deeper understanding of long-term animal rescue.

The working language at the centre is English. Some Spanish is spoken, but volunteers must be comfortable communicating primarily in English.

Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre is run by a small, dedicated team whose primary focus is the welfare of the animals. The founders are deeply committed to the day-to-day care of the horses and donkeys and lead a very private life; this is not a family or social hosting environment.

Volunteers are treated with respect, honesty and fairness, and are supported in their work by experienced coordinators. Clear guidance is given, expectations are explained from the outset, and volunteers are never asked to do anything unsafe or beyond their abilities. While the atmosphere is calm and purposeful rather than social or communal, volunteers are not left unsupported and always have someone to turn to if they need help or clarification.

This placement best suits independent, emotionally mature individuals who are comfortable with quiet evenings, personal responsibility, and working as part of a professional rescue operation rather than a shared household.

My sister and I had a very good time at the shelter Cafe the shelter. We would recommend this stay to anyone who want's to learn about horses and donkeys and all the other animals living on the farm.

My time at the shelter was great! I had a great time surrounded by great people. Thankfully there were other volunteers there at the same time as me which made things more enjoyable. It can be a little lonely if there's not. We all had separate rooms which were very nice and equipped with towels and AC! The town and beach are a lot farther than it says on the map, so it can be hard to go out and do things. It's mainly the work in the mornings, so definitely know what you're signing up for. Thanks again to Andrew and everyone!

The work was great and I admired the shelter's dedication to the animals. However, the rest of the experience was more challenging. I encountered much more loneliness and boredom during my free time than I expected. The opportunities to get around or to meet people to spend my time with were more limited than I had been told and I expected. So I decided to leave earlier than planned. If I had known beforehand, I would still have chosen to do it, but I would have opted for a shorter stay. I was just sorry to feel that my decision wasn't fully understood.

Thank you for your review, Ilaria. We understand that the rural location and quiet afternoons and evenings were more challenging than you had expected, and your experience has encouraged us to make this even clearer to future volunteers. I was sorry to read that you felt your decision wasn't fully understood, as I hope the time we spent talking over a drink showed that we did understand and respect your reasons.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Everyone was very nice and friendly and made me feel at home very quickly. I also had a bike I could use, so I could get to the beach or to the nearby town pretty easily. Work was finished usually at twelve o'clock every day and I had the rest of the day free to rest and explore the surroundings.

I spent a very good time their. The job is physical : feed horses and donkeys and clean the fields. You need to like them. In May, this part of Spain is already hot and you are working outside (7:30 - 12:30 most of the time). Sue and Ron, the fondeurs impressed me with their dedication and passion. And so is the team of workers and local volunteers, many of them come several times a week. I have been very well welcome. Much better with a car but not impossible without : buses in Rojales (15 min walk or 7 with bike) to Alicante, Guardamar, or Murcie. Only english speakers their.
