Flemingo

To experience the Australian 🇦🇺 way of life in the bush while learning a new equine discipline known as endurance.
Travellers who are capable horse riders, will be able to enjoy the Australian landscape and view native animals while on horseback (goannas, echidnas, kookaburras, kangaroos, koalas )
We have lots of horses available for your adventures on our miles and miles of tracks.
If you like cities and lots of people, then this is not for you. If you love nature and quiet then you are in the right place! Enjoy our spectacular sunsets each afternoon.

Please only apply if you can ride horses confidently ie know how to change leads and diagonals; can walk, trot and canter as a balanced rider. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to "teach you how to ride". For those who can ride, I will mentor you to become an endurance rider, and if the opportunity arises I will support you to participate in your first 40km endurance event.

Davo & I, are passionate about Arabian horses. Our hobby is to complete in endurance events and we love to share my hobby with other liked minded people.
In exchange for help on the farm and/or in the home, you will be treated as one of the family. All lodging, internet and meals supplied. You will have your own bedroom in our home. 🏠 we would like you to join us in preparing and eating breakfast and the evening meal. We always start the day with a good Aussie breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs, along with a coffee.
If we go somewhere, you are welcome to come along as well for the experience.
We usually eat out once per month in Inverell and routinely travel to endurance events.

Unfortunately my time at the farm's was cut short because of an injury (that was nobody's fault!). I really appreciated my stay there and enjoyed getting to know endurance racing, I feel like I learned a ton even though my visit was quite short in the end. Clare was very helpful with other activities, too, and organized e.g. a kayaking experience. The only reason I gave 4/5 is I feel like there was a bit more work than the 32h/6d that was stated; I didn't really mind that as a lot of it is riding but it just wasn't quite as advertised.

Our description says “You will be treated like family. This is a help-out where you can position”. We offer a cultural exchange on an Australian farm centred around Arabian horses and all that it involves. Horses cannot feed or water themselves, particularly in drought times like we have just experienced.
If all you want to do is ride horses, go to a riding/trail riding commercial setting and pay for the privilege.
If all you want to do is watch farm life, then go to a farm stay and pay.

I had a good experience staying here and especially enjoyed working with the horses. I learned a lot about endurance riding and gained valuable hands-on experience that I hadn't had before. The work was structured and there was always something to do, wich gave me the opportunity to learn many different aspects of horse care and training. The horses were well cared and spending time with them was definitely the highlight. Overall, I am grateful for the experience and for everything I learned during my time here. It was a unique opportunity for anyone interested in horses and endurance riding.

The time at Clare and Davo was intresting. They are nice people but also quite strict about how they want things done and I didn't have much spare time during my stay. The horses are amazing and the oppertuity to be emmersed in the endurace world is something I'm beyond greatful for. One thing that I didn't take in to consideration was the fact that they are Palio. I wasn't familiar with the diet and it didn't suit me, just want to make other volonteers aware to look theh up before you go. Please do reach out to me if you have any questions about the farm <3

Andrea was at Flemingo for 3 wks. She went kayaking at Lake Inverell, swimming at Copeton Dam, hiking in Kings Plains NP, koala viewing at Havilah Park, eating out at Thia Inverell, endurance riding at Imbil, cocktail drinks at the Union Bar, glamour photos ... Plus, she had a lot of spare time to herself every day.
I cook healthy Paleo Meals each day - Bolognaise, Chilli Con Carne, Beef Stroganoff, steak with mushrooms and vegetables, Ham Hock Soup, Nachos...
Andrea left owing me money.

Thank you, Clare and Davo, for this beautiful and educational opportunity on your farm. Clare and Davo are truly good people with good intentions—something I noticed very quickly. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, I wasn't able to stay for the full period, but despite that, I am very grateful for the time we spent together.

Thank you so much Clare and Davo! I had a great month at the farm. I was there in the off season so my daily tasks were very achievable and we would ride about every 3 days which was great. Clare also took time to organise me a few days work experience at the local vet clinic since I was interested. The only thing I would say is that there are no set hours of work as the tasks will happen all through the day and there are no days off. This was manageable for me but don't expect to have a lot of downtime as the farm is the priority. I would recommend this experience, thank you :)
