South American Language Center
Because our volunteers are individuals interested in experiencing Ecuadorian culture from within and because they will meet many people and be able to help many individuals overcome their fear of using English as a life tool.
My volunteers are considered my guests, and from my perspective, they are treated as very dear individuals. In fact, in Quito's culture, a visitor is always an important person, and I strive to make my volunteers feel at home and supported by me as long as they stay in touch with me.

SALC's programs are efficient & during my time there I could even see improvement after just a few days with some students! The accommodation is in a nearby hostel, 6 minutes walk away. Each work day, breakfast & lunch is available to you from a local restaurant across the road from the school. I felt I was respected during my time & each of the students/teachers made me feel very welcome. A day might consist of two individual hour-long activities, a virtual 1-1 & and a chance to visit local areas such as the Basilica. I truly recommend this school to anyone looking to make a true impact!

Make sure you go to Blue House Floresta as there is another BH nearby under the same ownership. The owner, teachers, and staff are welcoming and friendly- often seen laughing and smiling with each other and with students. The students learn quickly under the Ingles Rapido methodology. The work is a combination of casual group conversation practice on some lobby couches, and one-on-one topic specific practice. The teachers invite you to participate in unique class activities such as singing songs and not just direct translating the lyrics- but discussing the underlying meaning in context.

I had a fun time at the language school. The staff is very nice and it's amazing for getting in touch with the locals. The gets kind of monotonous though after a while. The hotel was fine and you will bd provided with meals 2 times a day from a nearby restaurant

This was a truly rewarding experience. Connecting with the students was incredibly meaningful—not just helping them practice English, but also learning about Ecuadorian culture and hearing about their dreams and aspirations. I enjoyed the variety of tasks, from group and one-on-one conversations to engaging activities and excursions. Quito is a beautiful city with so much to offer, and this experience allowed me to explore it while making real connections. I'd definitely recommend this opportunity. Big thanks to Galo and all the staff for such a great experience!

My host was very welcoming when I arrived. He and other staff members thanked me for coming, which warmed my heart. He left his assistant to show me around since he was leaving for a trip overseas. Unfortunately, the assistant and the program director, whom I had to report to (Ifound this out the next day), didn't seem to know the details of the agreement made with Worldpackers. The schedule did not include the 2 days off as posted. In my opinion, they were neither ready for nor organized to host the volunteers. In spite of these wrinkles, I enjoyed interacting with the students and teachers.
