About the Art Hostel;
In 2016, we transformed a derelict three-storey building on Leeds’ oldest street into a unique and affordable pop-up hostel for touring artists and travellers; a portal to the creative and cultural underbelly of the city.
We were inspired by our experiences across Europe, where cities welcome artists and performers and the unique characteristics they bring to a place. We saw an opportunity to build something similar in Leeds where the role of host takes centre stage.
Hospitality is our lifeblood. From warm welcomes to heartfelt goodbyes, we make sure those who interact with the Art Hostel are hosted from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave us. Primarily run by our team of dedicated volunteers, the hostel provides a valuable opportunity or those wanting to immerse themselves in the culture of the UK, as well as those looking to gain hospitality experience.
In 2021, we will open a brand new Art Hostel in the Mabgate area of Leeds. From there, we will draw on our relationships with the local artistic community to provide access to unique cultural experiences and use the spaces within the building to create one-off events, exhibitions and opportunities for guests to meet with artists and performers in a relaxed environment.
The Art Hostel was developed by East Street Arts, an arts' charity which exists to champion artists.
