Casa 1930 Guadalajara

This homestay is perfect for those looking for a more sane alternative to living in a bunk room in a hostel. Also a perfect opportunity to experience living daily life in a modern middle class bario in a culturally rich Mexican city. If you are looking for an immersive Spanish language experience, Guadalajara is perfect since very little English is spoken on the street. As a result, you will get a lot of practice listening to and improving your Spanish. It's also perfect if you have an interest in how these very durable adobe casas were designed and constructed to last 100+ years and be extremely comfortable without air conditioning or heat. You will see first hand many "green" eco concepts that have been in use for 90+ years. The beauty is in the simplicity. I love living in Centro because 1. The Climate is mostly sunny, dry, and extremely comfortable (10C-33C) year-round. 2. The local people are genuinely friendly, kind, and super helpful. 3. The city is vibrant and cosmopolitan with many cultural venues and events every week. 4. The food is super fresh and tasty. 5. I can walk or go anywhere by bicycle, bus, or the new Metro which is only 120 meters from my door. 6. I feel safe at all times of the day.

I have moved on from working 60-80 hours a week as an engineer in construction and am starting to enjoy my new life at a more relaxed pace in Guadalajara. In April 2022, I bought and moved into a modest 1930s-era casa that needs some love in Centro Historico about 800 meters north of the main Cathedral. Love being able to walk everywhere. I have traveled to 35 countries on 5 continents mostly on my own with little more than a backpack and a guidebook so I understand the excitement of discovering new places and the pitfalls of traveling alone long term. I am finally in a place where I am able to host and to pass forward the encouragement and hospitality that I have received during my travels. We will be working on most tasks together. Tasks into realistic-size chunks. We also look ahead and plan what needs to get completed this week in order to be ready for others to start their work. I want to work around your talents and goals and listen to your ideas about how to do something better. That will be a win for both of us. Open and frequent communication is essential.
