A small community of monks, nuns and laypeople live on site, either on a short or long term basis, all studying Kadampa Buddhism and contributing their time voluntarily to the smooth running of the place. A group of Buddhist students living in the surrounding towns and villages also actively help to maintain the spiritual activities whenever they can. Days of arrival for volunteers are mostly TUESDAY and THURSDAY (sometimes it can be other days if events). We can arrange for pick-ups at the nearest train station (Ecommoy-72) BEFORE 6 PM if we know it at least 2 days in advance. Helping with various tasks, such as catering or housekeeping, volunteers usually stay for several weeks and can choose whether or not they want to mix with the community and attend meditation classes. Everyone can easily feel at home, while respecting the rules of the community to preserve the harmony of the institution. The daily routine can be more or less demanding for participants, depending on the time of year. Schedules and days off must be flexible and may vary in the housekeeping and catering sectors. If you choose to stay on site, you'll need to get involved and actively participate in various tasks throughout the day, on the basis of 25 hours a week (5 hours spread over the day). You'll need to be available (if you have to work online while volunteering, this can be difficult to reconcile) and in good physical and emotional shape to be able to actively help out on a daily basis in the area(s) that require it. You will be accommodated in dormitories (women’s or men’s), designed to sleep 6 to 10 people with bunk beds. We provide sheets, pillows and duvets, 3 vegetarian meals/day and free laundry. French speakers are free to attend noon meditations and evening classes (in Fr), and non-French speakers can attend meditations in English but only twice a week. Most of the time you'll be surrounded by French speakers, so that's the perfect fit for those wanting to improve their French. We strive to create a respectful and harmonious environment that benefits all our visitors. To this end, we kindly ask you to behave in a way that is appropriate to community life throughout your visit, whether this involves keeping quiet in the dormitories, no alcohol or drugs, dressing appropriately or respecting the internal rules of the center, mostly based on Buddhists precepts. We will be very happy to hear from you soon !

Learning & Fun

This was an experience that perfectly balanced friends, nature, practicing french, and learning of a new lifestyle. I needed some time to rethink many things about my life, and this incredible place was just perfect for the retreat I needed! Even better, I could meet some interesting people from whom I learned new perspectives. If there’s one thing you can be 100% sure of about an experience at Kadampa, is that you will be smiled at all the time. You will be treated with respect and constant kindness.

Needless to say, they are extremely well organized.

My experience at kadampa was transforming. The tasks were well organized and I had a lot of time to meditate and work on my personal projects.

The work is pretty neat and the coordinator is open to feedback and rearrange tasks if needed (it wasn’t my case, but it’s important for future reference).

Thank you for having me and I can’t wait to meet Kadampa fellows again

It was spectacular volunteering, I was able to practice French, which was my biggest goal. The people are super friendly and make you feel welcome. The food is very delicious and you can repeat after the bell rings. The jobs are simple and easy to understand, depending on where you are, you do or garden, or help in the kitchen by chopping things or cleaning, but everything is very simple. You can learn a lot about meditation and you can take a retreat, it is very interesting, I recommend reading the books they have on the book shelf. Merciii :D

10/10!! my experience in Kadampa France was amazing. After coming from another volunteer not so great, Kadampa turn my expectations on the high! I was able to talk with a lot of different people all over the world and make friends. Also, the work was so fine that I miss the work time, painting with Stefan or helping in the kitchen with the other volunteers. The lodges that we slept were amazing and I would recommend this opportunity for everyone that want to get in touch with nature and create new friends :)
