We are a comfortable hostel located in Ponta Delgada, in the São Miguel Island, 20 minutes from the historical city centre.
We have beautiful gardens and a very walkable city center.
You can get to know the Island by bus or rent a bicycle if you are brave enough!
We provide you place to stay with a kitchen to cook your meals on a budget.
Come see the best views and eat the best food.
We will give you the best tips to live like a local!

The volunteers will integrate a small, friendly and cheerful team, that will be here to support you and make your stay comfortable. Volunteers will be treated with respect and we expect respect as well from the other hand. We are very open to talk and to change THE WORLD!

I overall had a great stay at Change the World Hostel. The work was straightforward and manageable, the hours were clear, and the location was fantastic. Exploring Ponta Delgada and São Miguel was amazing. The only reason that I took off a star was because the group chat felt very tense at times - employees sometimes took a very confrontational tone with volunteers, reprimanding one of us in front of the whole group. I was rarely on the receiving end of this, but it was uncomfortable for everyone. Otherwise, I had a great stay, and I would recommend this experience!

I had a great time at the Change the world Hostel Ponta Delgada. If you're fine with doing a lot of cleaning and if you have an awareness for what needs to be done this position will probably suit you. I enjoyed the morning shifts the most...As I didn't take a break I could get off at 1 p.m. and enjoy my leisure time the rest of the day. In winter it rains quite a bit but I was aware of that before so that's not too bad and also the weather can change really quickly.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful...
I recommend renting a car for exploring the island.

Fue un voluntariado muy tranquilo, cabe aclarar que estuve en época baja de turistas. Las tareas son sencillas y está todo explicado con anterioridad, al igual que los horarios y días de descanso. Puede que algunos días tengas que estar pendiente de los check-in fuera de tu horario, pero luego te compensan las horas, y puedes salir antes de tu horario. La isla es hermosa y el hostel está ubicado justo en frente del océano. Lo recomiendo (:

O voluntariado foi muito tranquilo, me cederam um quarto separado porque eu precisava trabalhar dois dias por semana no período da noite. As tarefas são tranquilas e fáceis, apesar de serem feitas exatamente como recomendam. Eu trabalhei quase sempre no turno da manhã e pra mim foi muito fácil de realizar tudo. Deve ser analisado a questão de um tempo de pausa (informam ser opcional) mas colocam no seu horário aumentando 5 horas semanais na carga horária combinada. Então recomendo que entenda muito bem o que eles consideram tempo de pausa durante seu turno e se quer manter essa pausa ou não.

Agradecemos a sua ajuda durante o mês de Dezembro.
Em relação ao horário, tal como foi explicado, colocamos 1h de pausa no horário para que ninguém passe mal e, há sempre a opção de fazer horário seguido se o voluntário assim o decidir, que terá que nos ser comunicado.
Ter pausa de 1h não significa, de jeito nenhum, trabalhar aquela hora a mais. Significa sim ter 1h de descanso para preparar comida, comer ou mesmo descansar.

I enjoyed myself during my 3 months stay at change the world hostels. The host stuck to our agreed hours, and because I was there in the low season, I sometimes got off early. I did feel the relationship with the hosts was more employee/boss but I got on really well with some of the other volunteers and got to explore the island with them.

Whilst the Island was beautiful, as a young woman I didn't feel completely safe with some of the men, so would caution any women to be careful. (This of course wasn't a fault of the hosts, they were lovely)
