Columbus Rooftop Hostel
At Columbus you will join part of a huge community of Gran Canaria island.
Our place is fun, sunny most of the time during the year. The island has a lot of micro climates, you can enjoy hiking in mountains, different types of sport, socialising with guests, find new friends.
Volunteers are part of the hostel family, we make sure they have everything they need to feel comfortable here. To extend their skill, comfort zone, language exchange, travelling experiences. Here you will get to know a wider variety of people doing the exact same thing as you, join part of a wider community on the island, get involved.
First and foremost in the building everybody is treated with complete and utter respect. Kindness and compassion is what we show to each other. Our strength is our location and the vibes. You will be part of a family, if this is going to be your first adventure, dont worry, we are going to take care of you :) We have a maximum stay policy of 2 months, but are always open to great people returning to us.

I had an amazing time during my stay at Columbus! ☀️The best part of the experience was definitely meeting a lot of wonderful people from all over the world. The hostel is part of a group of three hostels, which means there’s a big number of volunteers—this was fantastic because there was always someone around to hang out with, making it easy to connect with others.
The work itself was manageable, although there was a change in management during my stay, which led to a bit of disorganization. However, the new manager is very kind and I’m sure things will continue to improve.

My time at Columbus Rooftop hostel was truly an amazing first volunteering experience. The tasks were manageable and since I had three days off after every four days of work I had more than enough time to explore the island. The rooms, bathrooms and kitchen were tidy and the management was really flexible in terms of fixing the working schedule according to everybody's needs. I had amazing weeks with the other volunteers and would sincerely recommend this experience to everybody! Thank you for the awesome memories!

My month here was amazing!! I would totally recommend this experience🥰 The special thing about Columbus (Compass & Jungle) is that there are A LOT of volunteers. Everybody was so open, outgoing and interested in doing stuff together. Concerning the work: I was in the apartment team and cleaning was easy (you can even listen to music during work). About the accommodation: it’s mostly clean but some cockroaches. There also is an amazing rooftop and a spacious common area & kitchen. However, the beach is 30 minute busride away but the ticket is only 40cents for one direction.

La experiencia en Columbus ha sido muy buena. El trabajo era fácil y con varios días libres para disfrutar tu tiempo libre. Lo mejor ha sido conocer a los demás voluntarios y hacer viajes por la isla. La gente es muy simpática y abierta y se crea muy buen grupo. Los managers también son agradables y simpáticos. Muy recomendable!

My first volunteering experience at the hostel was perfect! The manager was friendly, and there were many other ppl to make friends with, as the dorms are mixed. The island has great spots to explore accessible by public transport. The hostel itself is chill with an amazing rooftop, though it's 5km away from the beach. Work was nice i was in the apartment team which had shorter but intense shifts on the apartments team. I learned a lot of spanish, but i wish i had the official managers all my stay instead of the substitute who wasnt good . It was a great experience 4me but can be subjective!
