Education Center For Community (ECC) Cambodia

Susadei Workawayers!

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children in Cambodia?

My name is Savuth and together with my wife, Savon, and daughter, Channa we run an education center in the village of Po, located a 5-minute walk from the local market, and just 15 minutes by car from the center of Siem Reap and 30 minutes from the famous Angkor Wat.

We opened our on-site center in 2014 to provide free additional education to the children in the local community, including free English classes for 100 students. In the following years, we started providing teachers for the primary and secondary public school which hosts over 2,000 students combined, ranging from 6 to 16 years old.

ABOUT TEACHING
Volunteers are currently able to teach at our on-site center, which is open both before and after school to provide additional help to students. Additionally, volunteers teach at the primary and secondary school, which is located about a 10-minute walk away. Typically, you will teach for an average of 3 hours per day, although depending on your availability and the number of volunteers staying at that time, you may be asked to teach for up to 5 hours.

The majority of our classes are conducted in English, so all volunteers must have at least a conversational level of English ability. However, please do not worry if your English is not perfect, as any assistance is greatly appreciated.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT As a volunteer, we would be delighted to have you stay with us in our home, learn about the local culture, and make a positive impact on Cambodian development. We offer dorms for our volunteers which includes free WiFi, fans and three home-cooked meals a day. We ask for a donation of $8 per day for the dorm room. You'll only be 15 minutes away from the local market, night market at Pub Street, floating village, lotus farm, and rice fields. And if you're interested in visiting Angkor Wat, it's just a 30-minute drive away. To get around there are also lots of cheap TukTuks available. We require a minimum commitment of two weeks from our volunteers, but staying longer will enable you to build a stronger bond of trust with your students and leave a lasting impact on their lives. With the help of volunteers from around the world, we've been able to improve the lives and opportunities of children from low-income families in the local community. We welcome volunteers to join us in making a positive impact on the lives of our children and community. We look forward to welcoming you to our family!

I came here with a friend and we had the best time! The kids are amazing and teaching in the school is so fun. Especially the evening classes at ecc. Would recommend this to anyone and I hope I get the chance to come back soon!

I loved this experience! I met so many amazing people and loved leading classes and teaching the local children. This experience also gave me loads of time to explore Siem Reap and see everything I wanted to. The dorms were a little dirty and there wasn’t always enough food for everyone. Moreover, there was no manager present when I and most of the volunteers arrived apart from two ladies who didn’t speak much English so we had to rely on other volunteers for information. It’s a very very volunteer led experience so keep that in mind! However I did really enjoy it and would do it again

Hi Olivia, my name is Anthony and I should have been there but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to return home to the UK after a fall where I broke my collar bone and 3 ribs. Sorry for the issues you experienced. Savon at the time was at our school in Thailand so it was hard to get cover. I will be back soon so we will have other improvements too. Other than said, we are really happy you enjoyed the experience. Enjoy your travels!

What a wonderful experience! Teaching at both ECC and the local primary school was such fun. The children are adorable and love to learn and practice English. There was such a lovely group of volunteers which made my time here great fun. You get lots of time to explore the local area and Siem Reap, and have daily trips to the smoothie bar! Very welcoming hosts :) I’d recommend this volunteering for anyone who wants to practice their English, teach in a different environment, and make a small difference in the lives of many children. Thank you for having me!!

Hello Hannah,

Thank you for your help, and for sharing your experiences about our place.
We will try our best to organize all of that for the next volunteers. Thanks for the good feedback and letting us know about our shortage.

We hope you have a safe travel and maybe come back here.

Best regards,

An incredibly blessed and powerful opportunity to give back to the world, irrespective of how small it is. Simply teaching the little kids English and seeing how loving and caring they are changes your perspective on life. Anthony, he is a lovely and charitable man who has helped better the area. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to teach abroad.

Hello Zahra,

Thank you for your kind review. And loving our school project.
Savon is in Thailand, that's why she only talks with volunteers during that time.

We will try our best to change these problems step by step.
Thanks for letting us know.

Best regards,
ECC team
