It is a small family business and we take pride in offering accommodations that are both exceptional and reasonably priced. Everyone should be able to come visit this astonishing island. Hosting Worldpackers participants provides yet another avenue for people to experience Hawaii, regardless of their income bracket.
Our guests come from every corner of the world and our place is frequented the most by European visitors, who are looking for a more genuine, less touristic experience.
I find it disheartening that in many hotels, social interaction among guests is not supported and is often discouraged. It is important that social interaction among people remains a fundamental component of travelling to a new place, so we enthusiastically encourage it here.

My time at the Hamakua House was amazing. I met some of the most amazing people as well as developed new skills. We went on so many trips and learned new things. It was the best experience ever : ) I think the exchange was very fair and allowed for time to explore the island.

I had the most amazing stay at the Hamakua house. It was truly life changing and I learned so much! The workload is very fair and straightforward and leaves plenty of time to explore the rest of the island. I am so happy to have met some of the most amazing people and to have learned so much about the culture. I couldn’t have found a better first work trade experience! I highly recommend staying at the Hamakua house to everyone!!

My experience at the Hamakua House was pretty good. Its a beautiful location and you are really immersed in nature while your there. Although we didn't actually have any days off we usually only worked a few hours a day so we had the rest of the day to explore. Houston the manager is very knowledgeable.He is just not very hands on in helping to complete tasks. We were assigned once to weed wack tall grass around his duck coop which was very
hard work and felt like it was just for him not the Hamakua House. But Mat was a great host and I'm grateful for my experience at the Hamakua house.

My stay at the Hamakua house was truly life altering! It was everything and more that I hoped for. The workload is minor and easily achievable. You are given so much time in a day to explore the island. I recommend getting a rental car for sure! You will learn so much about the culture during your stay. I was so fortunate to have Houston as my manager as he taught me so much and made my stay so warm and welcoming. Everyone here has been so kind and I cannot thank them enough for the experience that I had. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
