Hamakua Guesthouse and Camping Cabanas

It is a small family business and we take pride in offering accommodations that are both exceptional and reasonably priced. Everyone should be able to come visit this astonishing island. Hosting Worldpackers participants provides yet another avenue for people to experience Hawaii, regardless of their income bracket.

Our guests come from every corner of the world and our place is frequented the most by European visitors, who are looking for a more genuine, less touristic experience.

I find it disheartening that in many hotels, social interaction among guests is not supported and is often discouraged. It is important that social interaction among people remains a fundamental component of travelling to a new place, so we enthusiastically encourage it here.

10/10 would do again. It was such a beautiful property and environment in general was amazing. I made a mistake with my arrival dates and the owner Matt was incredibly accommodating and was able to make it work. Tasks were easy enough and we were usually done pretty early so we could explore the island! (10000% recommend renting a car) and even if the tasks were things I’d never done before if I had any questions fellow volunteers and the property manager Clarke were very helpful! Met some people I would call a lifelong friend and definitely want to meet up with again:)

I had an amazing time at the Hamakua Guesthouse, it was definitely the perfect place to do my first Worldpackers experience. The location is amazing, the property is beautiful! The work was doable even things that I’ve never done before, I learned fairly quickly because the handbook was very helpful and when that wasn’t enough information for me, I knew I could ask the manager Clarke. Clarke is a great property manager, he was very approachable so it was easy for the volunteers to come to him whenever we had any concerns or questions.

Overall great experience. Happy that this was my first Worldpackers experience. Both the owner, Matt, and the property manager, Clarke, were helpful and welcoming. The work was manageable and could be done in a timely manner especially when everyone helped everyone so we could get out and explore. While you don’t need a rental car it is nice to have while there. The bus isn’t always reliable and having car made it easy to experience the most possible while there. There is also stuff that you can walk to if you don’t want to rent a car.

Volunteering in Hamakua guest house was so much fun. I explored so much of the island and made friends with everyone there. The hours were straightforward and the jobs were easy. We had so much time to see the island.

This was my first WP experience, and it was truly amazing. The work could be done before noon on almost all days, leaving us the remaining day to explore the island. I made some really good friends and made memories that I will cherish forever. Everyone is super welcoming and supportive. A car is needed if you want to explore, buses are not super reliable. They have 4 adorable cats! If you have any questions, feel free to message me on ig: @korevisha
