HI Lillehammer Stasjonen
HI Lillehammer Stasjonen Hostel is one of the most popular choices if you want to live a real Norwegian experience as a volunteer. This charming little town, surrounded by mountains and beautiful lakes, hosted the Olympic games in 1994 and 2016 (Youth game), and has a long tradition of welcoming tourists interested in getting in touch with Norwegian nature, winter sports and local culture.
As a volunteer in our place, you will be staying in the hostel together with other social volunteers and students that have work practice here.
The volunteers undertake activities in the morning, during breakfast in the restaurant and in the guest kitchen by making and serving waffles and coffee, as well as talking and engaging guests to join the activities and creating a good atmosphere. The volunteers also join the staff by giving “an extra hand” during stressful periods and helping in our daily routines for a few hours during the morning or evening (dishwashing, cleaning of tables and breakfast room, etc).
During the day, the volunteer will organize free activities such as: pub guiding; Olympic trip – 936 steps, joining the “pilgrims meal” (every day in summer); sauna trips (all year round); city tours; biking tours; ski events, ice hockey games, ski and skating trips in the winter. All needed equipment will be fixed.
The activities are in the name of cultural exchange and to bring people together. If you and our guests have other splendid ideas, you just bring them on!
We are a truly international staff. The volunteers can expect to be treated with respect - and fun which will make it beneficial for all of us. We always have at least two volunteers at the same time. Hope to see you in Lillehammer!
Best regards Geir “the host” and the rest of “Team Stasjonen”
