Hostel Villa Angelina Old Town

Hostel Villa Angelina is a very special hostel due to staff and relations with our guests. Being a small hostel we can enjoy great friendly atmosphere where staff is guest's friend. Staff is in charge to give all the best tips for guests to enjoy Dubrovnik area! Our guests can have unique experience without any prior research. Besides great relations with guests we keep our hostel spotless so guests can feel like at home! Cleanliness is very important for our guests!

We already had few volunteers at the hostel. To become a volunteer here you have to be very friendly and nice person who has great communication skills, is willing to help in any process of running the hostel. The main task for volunteers is to explain guests about the hostel and activities to accompany the guest to their rooms (private rooms are 5 min walk from reception). Volunteers can have free accommodation, if they are willing to work more we can offer them 1 meal.

I had so much fun in Dubrovnik! The city is beautiful and everyone who works and stays at the hostel is so nice and welcoming. It was a really great way to meet so many people from across the world and make a ton of friends! It was definitely a decent amount of work and if you want time off, ask far in advance to have 2 days off in a row. The schedule doesn’t come out in advance so it makes planning difficult. I would definitely do this again and volunteer here again. It was also a great place to work on your English if you aren’t fluent. The activities that you lead are also super fun!!

Overall, my experience was very good. The number of working hours was respected, and the tasks during the night shift were simple (washing, hanging, and folding clothes and sheets, performing check-ins, taking out the trash, and transporting sheets between buildings). However, my accommodation experience was not comfortable. Unlike other volunteers, I was assigned to sleep in a school with cots outside of the old town, and each commute was an average of 40 minutes.

I had a fantastic time volunteering at Hostel Angelina. From the get-go, Adriana was incredibly warm and welcoming and continued to be an excellent, understanding, and helpful volunteer manager and mentor for the entire duration of my stay.

Working in the hostel was really fun, and the tasks were exactly as described on the application. Milan was also incredible to work with and the reception environment was one of care and respect. One note I would add is that the work can be physically demanding in the heat, it involves walking between buildings in the old town sometimes carrying bags.

The experience was not was I expected and felt more like a job rather than an experience to meet people or culture. The tasks weren’t the same as what they published or was told in the interview, where it was understood that the tasks would be easy, and there would be a lot of interacting with guest in activities, it wasn’t like that.
In my opinion is not worth working 6 hr a day (30 per week) just for one bed when the work is hard, and harder when is high season. The team was very nice, Adriana does the best for making a good environment for volunteers.
