First a little bit about Flores Island! The picturesque island of Flores is the capital city of the most northern department of Guatemala:the jungly Petén.
The colonial island is located in the beautiful Lake Petén Itza.For many tourists, the main reason to visit Flores is its proximity to Tikal, the most famous Mayan ruins in Guatemala, which are just a one hour drive away.
Nowadays Flores is a true backpacker hotspot. How could it not be? A lake that’s always the perfect temperature, lush jungle all around and the most beautiful sunsets ever.
All in all, Flores is definitely one of the most tranquilo and safe places in Guatemala

All in all, my stay at Los Amigos was okay. The work as a yoga teacher was fair, however, the managers have a LOT on their plates. The maintenance crew was using the yoga studio and continually leaving a mess that I was expected to clean, without being given proper cleaning equipment (mops, cleaner, etc). All in all, the staff is very kind, but I would say speaking at least a basic level of Spanish is a MUST. I was not aware of the fact that a lot of the staff is only Spanish speaking before my arrival. I got fortunate with an AC room, but most of the rooms are very basic with no AC.

My experience at Los Amigos was amazing from beginning to end! Simply outstanding and lovely. I stayed a total of 6 weeks cause I simply didn’t wanna leave. I fully recommend you to be with these guys when looking for the best time ever.

Los Amigos was great. Definitely a great way to cheeply travel as you get your stay, good and huge discounts of tours. I made friends with the other workers. The only complaint is that the room I was first placed in had bugs and was very hot. Later once a better room became available I was able to switch into a room with AC. The dinners were also sometimes repetitive but you get to make money from tips which is cool and I would buy groceries like nachos and eat that sometimes.
