Nava Indradhanush English Boarding school was founded in 1995 with only 15 students. Currently, we provide education to almost 150 students between 4 and 14 years old. No matter where the kids are from or which status their parents have, everyone should have a chance of receiving good education. The school is also home for 17 children whose parents are not able to take care of them. But after everything that has already been achieved, we do not stop dreaming. We want every kid in Nepal to have a chance at a better life. This starts with a good education. If you want to experience the real side of volunteering, making a change in the children's life, trying Nepali food, staying at my family's house, exchanging cultures and more, this is the place for you!
My name is Rabin Jirel, school principal at Nava Indradhanush. I grew up as a street kid with a life threatening tumor on his neck. In 1995, after tutoring kids for a couple of years, I realized that if I really wanted to make a change and therefore, I had to set up a bigger project: this let to the opening of this school. After all these years, the goal has not changed. I try to keep the monthly school fee as low as possible, and I provide scholarships where is needed (currently over a 30% of the students are free of charge). The school also takes care of 17 children whose parents are not able to take care of them. In my school, we need volunteers all year round to support teaching different subjects (English, maths, science, arts, sports, etc., improving the teaching skills of the staff, creating new material, organizing, activities, updating our blog, building new facilities, etc. Volunteers stay in my family's home, where my wife and I provide traditional nepali dish everyday during your stay. You will share a room and bathroom with other volunteers . Our house is located next to the school (max 10 minutes walking) If you want to know more about us and how you can help, send us a dm!
