Newsham Lodge

Our place is newly refurbished and we aim to maintain the property in its current condition while improving as time goes on. There's a real sense of scale in this location, as the property is 33 rooms on 2 buildings, however it does not feel overwhelming and is still cozy. The property overlooks Newsham Parks with its green spaces and lakes while also being easy access to the town centre and the football stadiums. Liverpool is ideally located for extracurricular activities both inside and out the city with its various nature reserves and proximity to the beach.

We took over Newshamn Lodge this summer and are quite new to the industry. Expect to be treated with respect and kindness. We give alot of indepen-dence here and free time. We have Shaun, who works as a hotel manager. He is in the hotel office 8-16 monday - friday. Then we have Saga, she works as a handyman/assistant manager/ all in all. We are a happy team and looking foward meeting new volunteers from around the world.

I want to be completely honest. This experience I met some truly wonderful people. I just can't recommend this experience to anyone. While the task itself were easy to accomplish. Safety is a major concern we dealt with multiple break-ins and the neighborhood isn't the safest for solo travelers. As well communication being lacking severely. Saga is gem she looked after us until she has to leave. As soon as she left we were there to figure things out on our own. Some days, we didn't get updates on bookings, which left us and paying guest confused and frustrated.

The work is simple, we work in 2 buildings doing the bedrooms and the laundry. The room is great and we have a private kitchen. My only point is with the management, when we arrived it was Saga so everything was fine, after she left it became a mess, the manager I only saw once, he sends the rooms we have to do but he disappears out of nowhere, he only comes back when he needs it. We make the schedules but they think we work all day. They could improve communication so as not to ruin the experience and understand how volunteering works

The overall experience was good, the accommodation was great and the tasks were simple. What got in the way at times was communication with management, which was messy. Maybe because it has changed ownership now, but many times we didn't know which room we had to clean, and even asking we didn't get an answer, the next day we received a message asking which rooms were clean, it was quite messy, so it made the work a bit difficult. But I believe that if they manage to organize themselves better, everything will be perfect. A very special thank you to Saga, and to Starr you are incredible! ❤

I want to specify that i rated not very well this volunteering because there has been a change of owner in the middle of my stay. At first, the experience was unpleasant because the tasks were not always suitable for volunteers and it was too much as we felt used. And the volunteer room was really unhealthy. But fortunately all changed in a very good way. When i left, there were renovating and improving the hostel (as much for the guests as for the staff). I think one day off is not enough but that's my pov. Thanks to Shaun and Saga and her family, i have amazing memories and stories to tell !
