Old Mill Hostel

Westport is a very exciting place to be, especially during busy seasons. Volunteers are able to see this up close as the hostel is located in the heart of the town centre. Volunteers have their own separate accommodation (including bathroom) from the hostel so it's great to have your own space. You will volunteer for 5 days per week, roughly 4/5 hours depending on the day. This is often much less as all morning tasks can be completed faster depending on the number of checkouts. You will also have 2 days off where you are free to wander about Westport and its surroundings - this is also possible on the days when you are working.

We like for volunteers to feel like part of the team from the very beginning. Living in a hostel is a dynamic environment and there is always something new and interesting to discover. We aim for our volunteers to enjoy their time in Westport as much as possible for however long they stay with us. As it is a family-run hostel, there are only a few members of staff and this allows volunteers to develop close and interpersonal links with us all.

Niamh, thank you so much for everything, always a loving person, helpful, communicative, giving all the necessary support, patient and makes us feel at home! Dani and Emily have no words to define, I am immensely grateful for all the support and time together, and for all the friendships I have made here, which I will take with me for a lifetime. The work is very smooth, well organized and we finish faster than you can imagine. The immersion is very real, and I practiced my English a lot, everyone was very patient. Westport is a beautiful town, I will never forget this wonderful experience! <3

I absolutely loved my stay at the old mill hostel! The location was perfect to get a small town cultural experience in Westport with weekly live music and events, but also so central to do day trips via bus to neighbouring cities or hikes. The use of the hostel bikes were appreciated too. The social environment is incredible and was so nice to be part of such an inclusive, fun, diverse group and so many cultures to immerse yourself in. The work was fair and always entertaining/fun. Niamh was great support, an abundance of knowledge, kindness and youth. Thanks for everything! :)

I just have to thank Niamh immensely for everything, always very helpful and polite!
with an immense commitment to make us feel accepted and at home!
In addition to Emily and Daniela who welcomed me with open arms and gave me all the
support to make this experience incredible
It was definitely the most productive and fun three weeks I could have at the hostel! the city of westport is very charming and the work is quiet even on weekends when the
hostel is more crowded, we always do it as a team!
I will definitely come back one day! Thank you so much Old Mill❤❤

I had an amazing time volunteering at the old mill hostel, the three weeks I was there flew by. Niamh and Daniela are lovely and really make you feel welcome in Westport. The work is straight forward, easy to pick up and you are often finished early which leaves lots of time in the day to enjoy Westport. The volunteer facilities are really good and it’s a great place to rest, explore and meet new people!
