Oteruelos

Because Oteuelos is in beautiful rural setting with magical spots surrounded by a large forest and a river. If you like animals, you will be pleased to meet cats, dogs, chickens, frogs, horses, goats and also deer, and foxes if you're lucky ! Volunteers will have the opportunity to reconnect with nature and share their musical, artistic and culinary skills or whatever talents they have. They can also keep fit working on the smallholding. Warning: There isn't any supermarket or shopping mall in Oteruelos. There's just a bar/cafeteria/restaurant 1 km away at the golf club.

We are Tadeo, my 17 year son, and me. And occasionally we have friends staying small periods. The main tasks are working the smallholding and in the garden ( pruning, trimming, watering, weeding, planting vegetables and bushes) plus household chores and garage and chicken shed maintenance.

I stayed with Santiago for 9 days and I had an amazing time staying in this beautiful village being surrounded by forest. Santiago knows many routes for having a walk and I really enjoyed taking the dog on walks. Unfortunately one of the dogs is injured at the moment but taking care of him and giving him love was a pleasure for me too. Santiago is a very funny guy who's got many stories and experiences to talk about, so spending time with him was always enjoyable. The tasks were rather easy even though painting a balcony was a first for me. The food was mostly organic and very delicious too!

I had a great time in Oteruelos! The village is super beautiful and the nature around it is perfect for long dog walks! Santiago provided us with healthy local food and preparing the lunch with him was always a delight! The tasks are relatively easy, but as they are spread through out the day you always have something to do. Just keep in mind that you have to plan your day around the work!

Our time in Oteruelos was great! The nature is so beautiful and we could explore it a little bit more everyday when we went out with the dogs. Santiago provided us with local goods. The tasks that you’re asked to do are simple and daily things, for example taking care of the household and the animals. Just keep in mind that the hours of work are spread out througout the day, which structures your day around the task.

During our stay in Oteruelos we had a good inside in the farm life. Our tasks were to take the two dogs for a walk, feed the animals, clean the chicken coop and cook together with Santiago for lunch and dinner.
Beside we were a helping hand with manual and garden work (repairing the door of the chicken coop).
We were happy that Santiago brought us to Soria the next bigger city. Otherwise we would have had to stay in town the whole time.
All in all, our stay was a good experience about farming but we could be a bit more involved in family life and he could improve the way of communication.
