PERSPECTIVE DEVELOPMENT SKILLS (PDS) CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION

Perspective Development Skills (PDS), also known as PDS Zanzibar, is a charitable organization located in Zanzibar, in the village of Kibele (Tanzania). PDS is the most affordable and trustfull organization of Zanzibar.

The main objective of PDS is jobs creation. In order to achieve this goal, we empower the local people living in the rural areas of Zanzibar by providing skills and access to additional education opportunities. We target women and the youth because they are the most impacted by unemployment issues.

Every month, many volunteers from all over the world join PDS and help to improve our projects!

If you don't want to choose between volunteering and visiting, PDS is made for you.

In PDS, we develop our projects in close collaboration with the volunteers. We consider that sharing knowledge and skills is the key to improve employment issues in Zanzibar. We have welcomed volunteers from all over the world who participated in different projects to help our community in need and to experience local life. The volunteers are accomodated in a house for volunteers, 30 minutes from Stonetown by car, with like-minded, impact-focused travelers from around the world.

PDS is not what it seems, it is an organisation with great potential but needs a change in the chief.
No welcome session when I arrived. No clean sheets. Meals consisted of bread and rice, nothing more. 10€ fee per day per person with no functioning kitchen to use, and only one plug/light per room. Unorganised project. Classes were good because of the volunteers. Other programs were a mess and don’t help the community. Sexist behaviour. Staff other than the director was very nice. Tried to expel us because we arrived one day after 00h. Not a good environment in general. Wouldn’t recommend. ;(

AVOID PDS! He only cares for the fee. School was closed in August. No project, he spoke suahili all the time, very impolite. Food needs were not met, dinner was a cucumber and bread.
I decided to leave after 1 week, even if I paid 1 month. He answered “ I won’t let you go”, It began a nightmare, He threatened to report me to immigration because I had a volunteer visa, so I was under his responsibility? He called the local leader and started making false accusations in order to make me leave the country. I had to request assistance from my embassy.
HE NEVER GAVE ME MY MONEY BACK!

It was owesome experience!! The community of PDS is very friendly, kind and helpful. The project is really interesting because is for developing talents and skills, with children, woman and teens. I recommend 100% the experience. You can learn a lot and at the same time you can help the project and the community.
