Rumah Gaharu

We have interesting programs about art and culture, including painting, recycled art, learning culture, growing plants that benefit life and nature, and other things about art, culture, and cultural heritage. The cultural exchanges that we definitely carry out, as well as the results of the activities carried out, we will manage to auction and exhibit on an international scale; the profit generated, we will give to friends whose works are sold by auction or other means.

We in Indonesia really have a culture of communication and a polite way of life, a healthy environment, and based on the experience of foreign guests who attend and chat with us, we always have a good impression from guests who come, and of course we still communicate well with foreign guests who have collaborated with us. Plus, when you have any good ideas for business! That would be wonderful.

I had the BEST TIME in Yogyakarta thanks to the lovely people from Coffee Wae and Rumah Gaharu! 🩷
A special thanks andd shout out to Mifta, Jabrik and Acif for making everyday even better than the last, getting me back in touch with my artistic and musical side and showing me all the beauty and love that the locals in Yogyakarta have to offer!
If you’re still deciding whether to go or not: YES it is SO worth it and you will have the BEST time of your life!

I had a great time here and would love to come back! There are two art communes: Coffee Wae and Rumah Gaharu. Coffee Wae is near the city center while Rumah Gaharu is near Mt. Merapi. They each have their own charm and I loved that both communes are surrounded by nature. Naufel was very responsive. Jabrik and Miftah took care of everything for us. The owners, Asif (Coffee Wae) and Nyong (Rumah Gaharu), were both kind. Note that this isn't a work exchange and and the fees go toward the meals, activities and transportation.

I had an amazing time during my stay, it felt like a home away from home. There is a big art community in Jogja so if you’re looking for a way to experience both music and art in all forms this is the place to be. There was jamming every night which was such a lovely way to spend my evenings connecting with new people. One of their mottos at Rumah Gaharu was “SLOW” which coming from a western speed of living was such a blessing to really feel the time to enjoy all the beauty around me. Life goes by so fast and at my stay every moment was truly magical! Thanks to all and see you in the future

I had a very special, unforgettable experience in Rumah Gaharu thanks to the host team making me feel like family and supporting me in my art, plus the environment allowing me to connect to the surrounding nature and locals. With motorcycle rides to the rivers and volcano, studio space to paint and experiment, the company of three cats, and lovely people to play music and have good conversation with every night- it was just a dream. very grateful for my time here and hope to return someday ! ❤️

My experience in Rumah Gaharu was really nice. I enjoyed every single day, there was always something to do. I could let my creativity run free anf learn something new about art at the same time. Also the nature is very stunning around the place, there is an active volcano, river for swimming and jungle-like landscapes. Keep in mind that this is not a typical worldpackers place, which provides food or accommodation in exchange of your work. You pay the team and your experience feels like holidays, since everything is provided for you.
