The Buransh Retreat (initiative of Himalaya Study Centre)
At Kausani the mountains rise so dramatically as if to reach the heavens. In fact not just Kausani the entire Kumaon Hills have been known for their idyllic beauty with the huge mountains silhouetted against the sky. It offers the magic of the deep rhododendron forests and the majestic mountains.
Amidst such beauty we have founded the Himalayan Study Centre and Retreat in Jauna village.Himalayan Study Centre is an ecosystem that provides Socio-Economic benefit to Rural India and Uplifts Environmental & Cultural Awareness in Urban Society via Performing Arts, Experiential Learning and Research Work.
We give a platform to performing artists to practice their art and teach it to the society as well. Then be it singers, dancers, painters, photographers, writers, instrumentalists, spiritual practitioners, social workers and more , we give them free accommodation at The Buransh Retreat with the only condition that the students will practice their art, teach the art and also perform for the society.
Our vision is to build tourism in Uttarakhand through art and culture. We want to encourage tourism but in a responsible way that is beneficial to both the tourist and most importantly the community.
By hosting the tourist / volunteers we directly introduced them into the Kumaoni/pahadi culture and involve them in every aspect of hill life.
Our staff comprises of local youth who are being trained in hospitality services. One of the most beneficial things for us is knowledge! The exchange of knowledge between the volunteers and people in the local community has been an important factor in helping develop our community through education, awareness and self-reliance.
