Our property is one of the rural houses with more history of the city, it was formerly a bakery from which it inherited its large wood oven, it has seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living rooms, a gym and a large terrace where you can enjoy the landscapes of the Sierra de las Nieves and even being mostly renovated, we want to achieve as a final goal a unique stay where we can accommodate in a rural, sustainable and unforgettable way to future guests and volunteers, you can be part of the process and be part of our family when this is over, are you up for it? ?☀️😊

GUARO (Málaga, Spain South)

In addition to a privileged natural environment, a very ancient history and an air of the purest, it is close to Marbella and Malaga capital, about 30 minutes by car, being able to enjoy the mountains but also its magnificent beaches along the Costa del Sol.

NATURAL RESOURCES

Located in the vicinity of the Natural Park of the Sierra de la Nieves, Guaro is a unique destination for lovers of active tourism. Two long-distance trails and a couple of mountain bike routes are some of the itineraries that start from its surroundings. The highest point of the municipality is in the area of Chiribenítez, on the border with Tolox.

The Natural Park of Sierra de las Nieves has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and EDEN award "European Destinations of Excellence" in the category of Tourism and Intangible Heritage. This park has more than 20,100 hectares of extension and constitutes one of the richest ecological redoubts of Andalusia thanks to its 3,000 hectares of Spanish fir, a species in danger of extinction.

LEISURE CENTERS

The Luna Mora Auditorium was built in 2010 and has a capacity for 1,800 people. This space hosts concerts and large-scale dance, opera and theater performances. The highlight of its programming is during the Luna Mora Festival, but it has activities throughout the year, especially in the summer months.

POPULAR FESTIVALS

Guaro's Andalusian past is remembered every year with the Luna Mora Festival, which is held during two weekends in September. All the lights of the village are turned off to be illuminated by the light of more than 25,000 candles. Its neighbors dress up to remember that historical period in which, on the Costa del Sol, the Christian, Muslim and Sephardic religions lived in harmony. And in its streets you can enjoy the gastronomy, music and parades of medieval Andalusia.

A little earlier, during the month of August, the Guaro Fair is celebrated. Traditionally dedicated to livestock, today it is a joyful reunion of family and visitors.

In addition to its Holy Week, Guaro has different festivals and religious celebrations that will surprise you. During Christmas you will discover a Living Bethlehem with more than 40 participants. In December, Guaro celebrates "Las Mayordomas" with processions and fireworks. And the Pilgrimage of San Isidro, patron saint of farmers, gathers every May the whole municipality around a procession that starts at the fountain that bears the name of the patron saint and arrives at his hermitage in the Grande River.

HISTORY

The archaeological remains located in the Chalcolithic site of the hill of Ardite confirm the presence of human beings in the municipality of Guaro since the Copper Age. The Romans also left some traces of their presence in the hill of Polvillar. In this enclave appeared remains of pottery, tiles, bricks and coins that suggest the existence of a rustic village between the second and fourth centuries.

The foundation of the present town, however, dates back to the time of the Arab domination. The Muslims initially settled in Guaro Viejo, to move soon after to the place that today occupies the locality. Conquered by the troops of the Catholic Monarchs in 1485, this town in the region of the Sierra de las Nieves received the title of independent town in 1614 by order of Philip IV.

This same king created 34 years later the County of Guaro. His domain was granted to Juan Chumacero Sotomayor Carrillo de la Vega, Oidor of the Royal Chancery of Granada and Knight of Santiago. The monarch showed his gratitude for the services rendered to the Crown by granting him this title.

RECURSOS NATURALES

Situado en las proximidades del Parque Natural de la Sierra de la Nieves, Guaro es un destino único para los amantes del turismo activo. Dos senderos de gran recorrido y un par de rutas para bicicletas BTT son algunos de los itinerarios que parten de sus alrededores. El punto más alto del municipio está en el paraje de Chiribenítez, en el límite con Tolox.

El Parque Natural de la Sierra de las Nieves ha sido declarado Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO y premio EDEN "Destinos Europeos de Excelencia" en la categoría de Turismo y Patrimonio Intangible. Este parque tiene más de 20.100 hectáreas de extensión y constituye uno de los reductos ecológicos de Andalucía de más riqueza gracias a sus 3.000 hectáreas de pinsapo, una especie en peligro de extinción.

CENTROS DE OCIO

El Auditorio de la Luna Mora fue construido en 2010 y tiene capacidad para 1.800 personas. En este espacio se realizan conciertos y actuaciones de danza, ópera y teatro de gran envergadura. El punto fuerte en su programación es durante el Festival de la Luna Mora, pero cuenta con actividades durante todo el año, especialmente en los meses de verano.

FIESTAS POPULARES

El pasado andalusí de Guaro se rememora cada año con el Festival de la Luna Mora, que se celebra durante dos fines de semana de septiembre. Todas las luces del pueblo se apagan para quedar iluminado a la luz de más de 25.000 velas. Sus vecinos se disfrazan para rememorar ese periodo histórico en el que, en la Costa del Sol, convivían en armonía las religiones cristiana, musulmana y sefardí. Y en sus calles se puede disfrutar de la gastronomía, música y pasacalles de la Andalucía medieval.

Un poco antes, durante el mes de agosto, se celebra la Feria de Guaro. Tradicionalmente dedicada al ganado, es hoy un jubiloso reencuentro de familiares y visitantes.

Además de su Semana Santa, Guaro cuenta con diferentes fiestas y celebraciones religiosas que te sorprenderán. Durante la Navidad descubrirás un Belén Viviente con más de 40 participantes. En diciembre, Guaro celebra "Las Mayordomas" con procesiones y fuegos artificiales. Y la Romería de San Isidro, patrón de los agricultores, reúne cada mayo a todo el municipio en torno a una procesión que comienza en la fuente que lleva el nombre del patrón y llega a su ermita en el río Grande.

HISTORIA

Los vestigios arqueológicos localizados en el yacimiento calcolítico del cerro de Ardite confirman la presencia del ser humano en el municipio de Guaro desde la Edad del Cobre. También los romanos dejaron algunas huellas de su presencia en el cerro del Polvillar. En este enclave aparecieron restos de cerámica, tejas, ladrillos y monedas que hacen pensar en la existencia de una villa rústica de entre los siglos II y IV.

La fundación del pueblo actual, sin embargo, se remonta a la época de la dominación árabe. Los musulmanes se establecieron inicialmente en Guaro Viejo, para trasladarse poco después al lugar que hoy en día ocupa la localidad. Conquistada por las tropas de los Reyes Católicos en 1485, esta población de la comarca de la Sierra de las Nieves recibiría el título de villa independiente en 1614 por orden de Felipe IV.

Este mismo rey creó 34 años más tarde el Condado de Guaro. Su dominio le fue otorgado a Juan Chumacero Sotomayor Carrillo de la Vega, Oidor de la Real Chancillería de Granada y Caballero de Santiago. El monarca le mostraba con la concesión de este título su agradecimiento por los servicios prestados a la Corona.

Los voluntarios serán tratados como uno más de la familia, somos una pareja de dos chicos que hemos viajado bastante y tenemos experiencias en relaciones similares al voluntariado, podrán disfrutar de las áreas comunes de la casa, de su terraza inmensa con vistas a las montañas, una cocina totalmente equipada, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO en una pantalla de 60 pulgadas, siempre podremos orientarles y ayudarles en su adaptación o plan turístico, con recomendaciones de visitas, lugares de retiro, ocio, etc.
