Tiny Shelter

Are you crazy about dogs? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of some abandoned, mistreated and unwanted dogs? Don't mind getting dirty? But willing for cuddles and belly rubs? And besides that would you like to learn Portuguese and about Portugal in a fun and interesting way? Then Tiny Shelter is the right place for you!

Tiny Shelter is where we keep as many dogs safe as we are able to. Us and all our regular volunteers are passionated animal lovers and sacrifice their free time for the well-being of the dogs. We all do this voluntarily like you beside our normal work and daily life. But like you we do this for the sake of the dogs and will be rewarded with lots of licks and love from them. The regular Volunteers will welcome you and teach you whatever is needed to care for the dogs in our shelter. At a dog shelter we work hard and we rely on your help and willingness to work. We can always talk about free time and work schedule, but when you are scheduled, our dogs rely on you.

I spent FANTASTIC three weeks at the Tiny Shelter (I wish I could stay longer!). Even though the weather wasn’t perfect and I didn’t have so much time to be a tourist, I wouldn’t changed a thing. From the day one, I felt so welcomed and special♥️ I learned extremely much about the dogs and got attached to so many of them! The volunteers- FABULOUS people. My second home away from home.
The studio was great, hours were respected and all the responsibilities connected to the work were always checked with me. Thank you for everything! Hopefully, see you soon again!

I enjoyed my time at tiny shelters.
Yes, the work can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning but you get used to it pretty quickly and even if you feel a little lost the other people were always helping me out :) The accommodation was good - you share a little house with one other volunteer. Sometimes I felt like the communication inbetween the volunteers wasn't as good which led to confusion and unnecessary hardships but overall I felt really welcomed by the volunteers.
Every single one of the dogs is great and I already miss them alot

My time at Tiny Shelter was really nice! Although there were some things that weren’t so great in my opinion, the overall experience was one of the best I ever had. I got in touch with the dogs so much, and O loved interacting with them. The staff and the volunteers have me so much trust and it was really nice to have the chance to improve myself. The people there are very sweet and the accomodation is also really cute. To have your own space that you have to share with just one person is a real privilege while travelling. I will defenetly come back!

I had an incredible stay at Tiny Shelter. The work can be a little challenging but it’s so rewarding! I felt so connected with the dogs and was sad to say goodbye. The accommodation is really nice and has everything you need. All the staff and volunteers are so friendly and care so deeply for the dogs. I highly recommend to volunteer here, you won’t regret it!

I had a wonderful time at tiny shelter! The time with the dogs was really great and enriching.
The other volunteers from the studio were also the best and the location of the shelter is very good, the beach, town and train station are very easy to reach. Isa does a wonderful job with the dogs and I was able to learn a lot from her. You can tell that the dogs are very important to everyone, even if I couldn't quite understand a few things. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend tiny Shelter!
