We require a minimum of 13 hours / week volunteering with a minimum stay of 2 1/2 months. We offer lodging for volunteers. We hope that volunteers will find other work in the area while they are here. There are plenty of opportunities during high season in town.
We want people who want to learn and educate to make a positive experience for everyone. The reception / bar requires a lot of training and we are selective for those looking to help in that area. All helpers must be computer literate (we use a Mac). Most positions are for one person, thus helpers should expect to volunteer alone on shifts.
We want real team members - people who want to make this place better and will help out even if they aren't on shift.
Reception / Bar Shift: Our bar is our reception. Learn to check people in, make drinks and food. Interact with guests.
Housekeeping: Changing bunks and beds, general cleaning,
Snow Clearing / Maintenance: Just that.
Trail Angel: Drive to the PCT to pick up and drop off hikers.
We have a high standard for our helpers. We don't allow impairing substances (i.e. alcohol or others) while on the job.
We have more rules than most places. We play music that fits our bar and my taste (not always everyone's taste - Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Django Reinhardt, and more recently some instrumental hip hop) and we close the kitchen and dining room at 10:30 pm. We don't allow people to walk around in bare feet or without clothes on (shirt required). No shoes on furniture. No bare feet on furniture. We are clean and tidy and don't have a party hostel, though we like to have parties on occasion.
