The Experience

I used to have an English school by my house that got destroyed in 2024 because of a flood during the rainy season here. The English school is my personal project and it allowed the local kids to learn a language that could help them get better grades at school but also have access to media, information and prospects of a future job. It's important to me to give back to my community which is why I want to rebuild the premises of my school.

If you wanna immerse and discover the Minangkabau culture this is the place to be! Roni not only is an experienced musician he's a cultural and social leader for his community and he's working hard for improving the living conditions of his people. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had and I totally recommend people to help Roni in his goals. As a side note, the local food is so good!

Since childhood, I dreamt of waking up in a rainforest and this dream came true, thanks to Roni and his family. I had a great opportunity to practice English with Regil and truly hope he succeeds in his tourism degree. I was so grateful to be part of Home (capital H). Roni's vision, the classroom, the infrastructure he's building deserves full support. I love the fact of getting to know more about the day-to-day life here. Not a fairytale though, just like anywhere. Didn't feel like a tourist, which is the best thing. Wish I had more characters to say more. If you want Sumatra, this is it.

Roni's project in the project is a meaningful initiative that supports the local community by creating opportunities for cultural exchange and English learning. The focus on preserving traditional culture while welcoming travelers is very inspiring. Projects like this help connect visitors with local life, agriculture, and arts while encouraging language practice for children and the community. It's great to see efforts that combine education, culture, and community development in such an authentic village setting in West Sumatra.

My time in the project was unlike anything I experienced before. Get off the beaten path to experience local culture in a way that no tourism agency could ever offer to you. Live like a local, eat like a local and have true impact on the community. Roni is one of the kindest persons I know and he made me feel truly welcome in his home. the project offers many interesting places to go to but you might not want to go anywhere as the backyard offers stunning views of the river and the rice fields. If you want to use your time to make an impact come here and help with the river project!

Robert Goosen from Germany has been an incredible asset to our community during his time here in West Sumatra. His dedication to social initiatives, such as teaching English to children across various educational levels, from kindergarten to university, has made a profound impact.Additionally, Robert's enthusiasm for immersing himself in our traditional arts and culture, evident in his participation in Sunday night community events, where he shares his knowledge and learns traditional dances, exemplifies his genuine commitment to cultural exchange.
