Program Details

Volunteers/interns in this position will have an incredible opportunity to experience all aspects of what it is like to run the entire operation which currently holds 30-35 dogs as well as dive into the dog care awareness campaign community-wide. Participants are invited to play an active role in all aspects of operations of animal shelter management:

You will have the opportunity to shadow a bilingual veterinarian and be in surgeries on a regular basis.

If you stay long enough, you may choose to participate in these:

• Dog adoption campaigns
• Dog spay & neuter campaign

• Dog life termination decision-making
• Dog veterinarian visits

Activities & Shift

• Shadow & assist dog haven manager as directed
• Tasked to compare/contrast Colombian practices vs. U.S. practices then make presentation
• Support in the creation of information materials for the public
• Support in the review of current internal operations processes & procedures for improvement
• Conduct dog health & behavior management awareness campaign
•Conduct spay & neuter campaign
•Conduct fundraising campaign
•Population survey of homeless dogs in the community
•Selection of which animals are brought into the shelter
•Take dogs to the veterinarian and observe procedures


We are NOT a free lodging program. It costs fifteen dollars per day to participate in our program. The fee covers the program as well as well as your lodging at either the dog haven house or at Minga House.
